2000 Maxima SE - First 100K Impressions

I have owned my Maxima for just over 2 years and just yesterday it turned 100K. YEY - happy b-day!

In these 2 years, I have put on 60K on it. My first three mods in order were K&N panel filter, strut tower bar and Y-pipe. During this period the car has never left me on the road or no-start. Costs of owning besides the performance mods that I put on (you can see those on my page), i.e. the maintenance and repairs done to it in addition to regular oil changes engine/tranny were (all I’ve done myself with purchased parts):

- Potenza tires replacement when I just bought the car ($600)
- paint chips ($500)
- all three O2 sensors (total cost of $250 - dealer, org member and sim)
- repaired the rusted connection between muffler and B-pipe (Budget $40)
- plugs - NGK Iridium (CT $40)
- fuel filter (DaveB $30)
- PCV valve twice (dealer $15)
- alternator due to noisy bearings (used $50)
- starter due to noise on cold morning start-ups (was too lazy to grease it up – used $50)
- idler pulley that I broke during first belt change (dealer $70)
- changed the alt/PS belts twice (CarQuest $60)
- front rotors and pads twice (Napa/CarQuest $200)
- rear rotors and pads once (Napa/CarQuest $100)
- in-cabin filter installed and once cleaned (dealer $80)
- JB Weld the VIAS system ($10)
- TCM, coils and MAF were replaced when I was troubleshooting a problem and were OK then so can be considered as preventative (TCM and coils used $350, MAF from DaveB $120)

So total of about $2,500 in past 60K/2years in maintenance expenses. Not too shabby - relatively speaking

I have to say that it is a fun car to drive with a lot of potential. I would rate it as one of the most all-around cars I have ever had a chance to drive in areas of reliability, performance, quality, price, cost of owning, appeal and fun.

In summary - some engine bolt-ons combined with sportier rims/tires, FSTB and RSB make it a very fast and agile car...

Enjoy yours responsibly and see you on the road

Going on 90k myself. Ive run into a few minor issues, but extended warranty has covered it. Only bullsh*t repair I had to make was the run rubber inside the door for the passenger front window, and replace rotors that went warped real quick. Was like 200 bucks for run rubber and rotors I got from Dave B.. Complete BS, other than that no issues, and mos def a fun car to drive.

that's actually quite a bit of repairs, but at least none of them were anything serious

my mom's '00 SE auto has just over 220k on it right now, and the only things we've had to replace on it were the motor mounts, coils once, and the MAF once...EXCELLENT car, and i hope my 3.5 will live as long as hers has....

Nope. Buying a junkyard engine to swap into it. I'll the first 5.5 gen with a 3.5 swap FTMFW!!!

Once the old one is pulled, I'll tear it down with pics for everyone. We'll see what's in there then.

I have 158ish -K miles one my 01 Maxima.
3 clutches- 2 of which where failed ACT pressure plates- 1000 bux
4 sets of rear wheel bearings- about 400 bux.
2 new front wheel bearings- 200 bux, not needed but did em anyways.
5 MAFs- about 450 dollars
1 set of coils- 100 bux thanks to Ebay, never needed them... but they are the new ones just in case.
2 sets of spark plugs- 60 bux, I change mine every 60K miles.
12 sets of tires- approx 6-7K dollars.
56 oil changes- each costing approx 35 bux, doing it myself with OEM filter and Mobil 1.
3 sets of AC filters now- cost 150 bux.
Tranny flushes every 30K miles, approx 200 dollars in Redline fluid.
Power Steering flush- once every 2 years, approx 40 dollars.
Brake flush every year- approx 100 dollars worth of Motul RBF650
Coolant flush every year or less- approx 40 dollars.

I just had my 1st tail light bulb burn out on me last week....

Kicker is I get 60% of the stuff for free so it doesn't bother me, its nice to be a mechanic and know people who own dealerships

Even if I had to pay for it all its still isn't too bad, considering the amount of abuse my car has seen. I am a maintenance freak, so it would cost ALOT less if I didn't do all that stuff so often, and didn't burn through tires every 12K miles.

Wow Blackbird, and I thought I was a maintenance freak

Even though we spent a few thousands on it, over the life of the car it works out to ~2 cents per mile which I think is excellent when considering costs of owning a car...

Thats really not too bad, especially given the reliability of the engine, i drive a real lot, dont have as many miles as some of you (87k) but i got the car with 55k on it may of 05. MAF done under warranty, did plugs coolant power steering all myself $70 Mobil 1 oil changes $27 a pop, fixed muffler/b-pipe weld $65 swaybar links under warranty. Maxima hasent been bad at all, my bad one was my previous car, 99 Grand Am. Listen to this, I calculated how much i spent in repairs (both body and mechanical, needed a front bumper from winter) but also stuff i did like a stereo, tint, i put an OE spoiler on, two sets of tires etc. Overall it came to $6200, had it for 2 1/2 years and put around 61000 miles- comes to ten cents a mile! definetly more than you guys around 1-2 cents a mile

My math shows $6200/61000= about 10 CENTS per mile.

Your right, haha sorry- fixed. Missed the decimal place. But still, if i bought another GM car it'd definetly be bumper-to-bumper warranty and only an LSx or 3800 powered car.
