Anyone hear of Street Legal powdercoated calipers?
Anyone hear of Street Legal powdercoated calipers?
My right rear caliper is freezing up on me. Started today on the way home. Smells like donkey a$$!
I saw that Autozone carries Street Legal rear calipers (sold in pairs) for $99 with a $155 core. They come in powdercoated yellow or red. Has anyone heard of them? Quality?
There are no pictures and I can not find anything online about them

i have the same problem. i'd check that price again...i am 99% sure that it is 99.00 ea, only sold in pairs. I looked at those as well and they were special order. I would have preferred the powder coated finish instead of the standard metal but the cost was more than I budgeted for when in reality I just need the bracket! I looked at all the local parts stores and at nissan and they all take at least a week to get here. Prices for them varried from 63/caliper semi-loaded to 116 for a loaded caliper EACH from the parts stores. Nissan was asking 316 for one semi-loaded!
on a side note...is it the caliper or the slide? If it is the slide, go to Advanced Auto and buy the slide/bolt kit for $7. it has slides for both sides and you can reuse your rubber boots. I tried that but the slide is so siezed I've almost destroyed my bracket trying to get it free, so i had to buy a used caliper for the bracket.

I just pulled the caliper off. The slider bolts are fine. No binding at all. I even turned the piston in 1/2 a turn and it went in without any issues. I don't know what caused the freeze up but it appears to be fine now.

it sounds like you figured it out, but just take off the caliper and seperate it from the bracket...once you have them apart, take the slide and turn them or to do some PMCS (Preventive Maint/Checks & Service) pull them out, clean them well and regrease with slide lube! KY will not work here! lol. while you have them apart, check the rubber boots for tears or cracks. Once you're done inspecting them and regreasing them, put them back together. If you want to have the painted calipers...this would also be a great time to do it. I've used hi-temp engine paint and clear to do mine and it's lasted just as well as caliper paint like folia tec...just a 1/4 the price! I clean with brake-clean and a parts cleaner brush and let dry. Then I lay 4 coats of engine block paint fairly heavy...waiting for ea coat to dry. Then after I've coated them well, I follow up with hi-temp clear...with 2-3 coats fairly heavy also. Total cost of supplies is about $12. Time is about 2-3hrs. I've done them on and off the car...on the car just tape the areas you don't want paint on and use a plastic grocery bag to cover the rotor and hub, tie the handles on the brake line or tape them up there...use newspaper to cover the other areas like ss lines or struts and springs from being coated if you do them on the car...it saves a bit of time and looks fine from a distance, but you will probably have some overspray. best bet is to do it when you have the calipers off the car. best of luck and I hope this helps a few ppl out.
I am assuming this is the info you were looking at???
