Replacing rear 02 sensor. (question)

Like the title says, but my catolitic converter seems to be comming apart on the inside, and I can not afford a new one ot the moment. So my question is if I decide to just gut out the cat for now (no emissions testing here) untill I can afford a new one will the car throw any codes for that. I would rather do that for now than replace the 02 sensor behind the cat and have something come out of the cat and damage the new 02 sensor.

It should throw a code. I think on OBD2 cars, the second o2 is there to ensure the cat is working properly, so if the cat is gutted, you'll have that code all the time unless you use a o2 simulator.

That is what I figured, but couldn't find any simulators. Oh well, I replaced it earlier today with a BOSH 02 sensor with a 1yr warentee... so if it gets messed up in that 1yr I'll just replace it again.

Also when I was under there I noticed a bunch of crap between the heat shield and the cat so that could have been the ratteling sound also. I'll take off the heat cover and get everything out of there and then maybe the sound will go away.
