i just ordered myself a berk intake and another member on here was telling me to use the stock connector piece from the intake to the MAF instead of the supplied connector, how true is this?

 

You will need to use the supplied adapter flange from the MAF to the intake. Other than that, you'll just use the supplied parts that come with your intake, ie. short pipe and couplers. Pic of my Berk setup with K&N.

 

yea i went with the apexi dry filter, but overall hows the performance and sound of your setup?

 

That's the one I have with my Berk intake. I think those are the best new dry filters that they have. Sounds nice, and no problems with performance!!
I need to take picture and show you how it'll look installed.

I also ordered a Berk intake yesterday and had heard of this question before. Thanks for clearing that up. I also went with the Apexi filter. Hopefully it will ship sometime soon.

Nice choice; Berk makes some quality parts. They make some SMIC kits that are very popular with the MR2 Turbo guys.

As for the filter, A'PEXi is definitely the way to go, check this out:

I have the berk/Apexi setup and used all the parts that came with it. Make sure you tighten everything very well. I thought I did and now my piece that supports the kit fell off. It doesn't sag or anything though.
I had done the y-pipe to the back first and noticed some gain, but when I added this setup, the car screams.

The intakes make little to no difference (other than sound), the filter...even less.

 

I couldn't say for Maximas, but for other cars with MAFs (WRXs and MR2s at least), the filter makes a difference. I have seen and read about several instances when the MAF got fouled from oil on wet-type air filters.

The A'PEXi is nice in that it uses no oil and doesn't have to be cleaned as much as wet-type filters. Not disagreeing with you, just saying what I have seen.

 

Definately for maintenance-free, I'd do the Apexi as well. Only drawback really, is the higher price.

 

I just installed my berk today with the apexi, great sound and I used all the parts that came with it.

 

installed my intake today, but that support bracket that mounts by the strut im having trouble with and i dont wanna break my MAF forcing it too hard, any suggestions?!?

 

You can remove that as well.

 

That midpipe is too long.

 

That is what I was thinking after looking at those install pics. What effect (if any) does that longer path after the MAF have on performance? Loss of low end?

I bought the BERK intake w/ Apexi filter yesterday....I dont see any SCREWS...is this correct? Or am I missing parts?

 

Check your instructions, you have to use some of the exisiting screws.

 

I don't know if that's true with a manual (mine's auto) or as an initial mod, but I noticed some gain with my y-pipe and catback. The big gain was when I put on the Apexi and Berk intake.

 

I notice much better response at highway speeds, 3500rpm onwards. The sound of the BERK w/ the Apexi is really great...I was in a tunnel and decided to rip it and I cant believe how great it sounded....before it was just crap

 

You don't know big gains unless you have added headers and drove the car before and after.

 

is it possible to replace the Wet K&N filter for Apexi dry filter? Is so, where can i buy just the Apexi dry filter?

 

Just received my Berk (Apexi) intake. The mid pipe is on a long back order. Can I install the intake with out it(for now)? Or do you recommend waiting for the mid pipe?

I called Berk and they said I could install it as is. Anyone else do this? If so... any problems? Concerns?

Also... I just thought about cleaning my engine bay and I wonder... How do you guys clean(wash) your engine bay after you've installed your new intakes. Do you just wrap the filter with something? Or do you replace the stock intake?

Screw the midpipe... use the stocker or straight to the accordian to the TB...
I put a a paper bag over mine and a towel. I also stuff a towel in the KS valley.

What is it.. It means the midpipe is backordered...Plain and simple they wont have any until new ones arrive.

A midpipe can be made in 10 minutes and less than 7$.. It's even easier to make one for the 3.5L than it is for the 3.0L...

 

it was a lil over a week and a 1/2 before i got mine, and i ordered it just about 3 weeks ago

 

I reveived mine as well in about 10 days. The midpipe does seem to be a bit long with the k&n filter but it does fit. Sounds unreal.

 

I ordered mine on July 30 (APEXi power intake). They were quick to accept my Paypal payment. Since I didn't recieve no notification on my order, I decided to call them about a week later. They said it might be 2 - 3 weeks for me to recieve it because they "are waiting on the dry filters".

My question is, Why are they so quick to charge?? and then tell you its basically on "back order". Why not let you know before you pay???

 

they need your money to pay for the filters.
but really, all companies will charge your account as soon as you make the payment.

 

Yeah, I ordered mine on July 27th.(with Apexi filter) Havent gotten it yet, but im being patient. Hopefully by the end of next week.

I was told to re-use the originial (OEM) flex connector from throttle body to the mid pipe by people on this board.

Something about causing damage to the maf b/c of viabration...Any truth to that?

 

short answer...no

 

Just use the accordian piece and no mid-pipe. Or accordian as the m/p.. . That's how mine is set-up.
