Problem with my engine/transmission?

My 2k auto max seems to be sluggish when accelerating? Also when the transmission goes to shift from 2nd to 3rd gear it jumps about 1000rpm before it shifts and then whines like the vaccuum valve or something is loose.. Do i need to reset my ECM or what? From what I understand, the process of reseting the ECM in the 5th gen is different from the 5.5 gen. Or, is there something else wrong that I'm not thinking of? Any suggestions or ideas about what is wrong? I know I am a Newb, but please I would like to know what is wrong.

Thanks

Sounds like the TCM is going in your tranny. This is a classic TCM issue. Check the sticky on the 5th gen forum regarding TSB's. There is a TSB for this, but it won't be covered under warranty unless you have extended warranty.

I have the same problem and looking around for a 2K1 TCM, I am undecided between a new TCM with most upto date changes or the bare minimum 2K1 TCM from some junkyard.

One other culprit for slugglish response is either the MAF, ignition coils or dirty TB, but most suspect is the TCM.

I have the same exact problem, but its in my 03. Except the rpm jump is only in the most extreme case about 500 rpm. My car donest really hesitate though. Could it be the same problem?

So i took my transmission pan off today just to see if there was any metal on the magnets and to put new transmission fluid in. Holy S*&#!! There was so much metal on them. The previous owner must have loved to do neutral drops or something. It has been doing this for a while and jsut recently got worse. Looks like I'm going to have to spring for a new transmission... Anyone know where i can get a transmission for a good price?
