HELP!!!... intake and idle problems

ok so heres the deal... on saturday night my car shuts off even after cranking it... i figured it was the mass air flow sensor... so i disconnected that and drove it home... wouldn't go above 2200 rpm... so i decided to get me a new mass airflow sensor... i replaced it today and it shut off on the way to autozone... so i disconnected the new mass airflow sensor... i took it back home and noticed the intake was out... so i figured the reason it shut off was because the air flow wasn't going throo the intake and the maf didn't detect anything... so with that in mind i switched back to the old one and it ran... but it idled from <900 and jumped to above 2000 grand and keeps doing that... i drove it home from my friends house and i didn't even have to tap on the gas it would move by its self... i had to apply more pressure onto the brakes as it kept moving forward... another thing i noticed was wen the vehicle was in motion and came to a stop i feel a big click in the tranny and this tap a hard tap on my gas pedal... guys any help on fixing this issue would help... i also tried disconnecting the to harnesses that go on the side of the throttle body housing... nothing...

So if it would go past 2k why did you replace it?

Are you sure everything is connected properly after what you did?

bump... i tried... Idle Air Volume Learning Procedure For 2000-2001 out of the how-to section and RESET THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR IDLE POSITION MEMORY from the fsm... still no luck... it idles around 1k and everytime i pull the throttle drum closer to the stopper it idles lower but wen i release it... it goes up to 2-3 grand.... i can't take it... i managed to make a trip to autozone with the car and got 3 codes pulled off again... and then wen i go home to do the procedures the check engine light came on... heres the codes i have p0100 x 2 and then p0505

Just had the same thing happen to my '03 yesterday. Thankfully I know a Nissan tech personally who wouldn't jerk me around. Sure enough it was the throttle position sensor that went out. It drove fine this morning for some reason, but I was on borrowed time until it would start acting up again. I got lucky and got it covered under warranty this time around.

I was told when the TPS fails it will put the ECU into a "fail-safe" mode. Mine had nothing to do with the MAF sensor. After freaking out, getting a backup vehicle and arranging to have it serviced, the car worked fine 4 hours later without having to disconnect the battery or anything. The SES light stayed on, but the car was driveable. No telling as to when the TPS would have put the car back into fail-safe mode. It couldn't have happened earlier in the day when I was mountain biking 3 miles away from the dealership. It had to happen 12 miles away at home. The car would start for 2 seconds, then drop down to 500 RPM, then eventually go back to a normal idle. No matter how much pedal I gave it, the car wouldn't respond. But for some reason it ran later. I was perplexed.

if it were the tps, wed get a code for it as long as we were seeing FMEM.

sounds like if you can pull the linkage and close the throttle, and its normal idle until you let it go, then maybe its just a damaged throttle linkage.

disconnect the linkage at the TB and see what happens.

Just stating that the symptoms are pretty much identical, and this is what the fix was for mine. She's all fixed up now and I'll be picking it up today. Even got a free car wash out of the deal.

ok so i came to this conclusion... odd but true... i went to the nissan dealer... and i looked for the same guy that did my timing advance and he tried fooling around with the idle air volume learn... but the computer wouldn't allow it... with even several attempts and he called it quits... but just before i was leaving i noticed how my idle was still high but at the same time the 2 cables on the throttle... the one that leads to the cruise control was tight with no slack... i tugged and tugged and the rpms dropped... i called the guy back over to see if he can adjust anything rite now... still no go the ecu wouldn't let it adjust to the proper rpm even though it was already 700 rpms... but i just got home and i looked again... and theres alot of slack on the cruise control cable... enuff slack as if it was the way it should be... now heres my questions...

a. wat should i do about the ecu no letting it learn the idle air volume

and

b. wat should i do about the cruise control throttle cable...

if the parameters arent right, the ecm wont allow adjustments and/or learn procedures.

same goes for if you have a fault stored (like the p0505). fix the problem, THEN clear the faults, then do the learn procedure.

looks like your issue is with the cruise cable or servo, id pull the cable out in the meantime.
