HELP! Knocking Sound From Rear.

I appreciate any input on the matter. Just recently my Maxima develpoed a clunk sound coming from the rear of the car. It only happens when entering driveways or switching from a right turn to a left and vise versa.

The clunk is a one time sound, meaning that it doesn't keep clunking when I go up a driveway or around a corner. It just clunks once!

The clunk sounds like metal on metal.

I will be getting under it tonight to try and locate the sound myself, but in the meantime, any help is appreciated.

its in the rear, exhaust pipe just before the muffler hitting the crossbrace, check to see if the two exhaust bolts just before the muffler are loose, you also might notice a small exhaust leak.

if thats it, youll need to 'lift' the muffler before you tighten the bolt back down.

good luck

Cool, I'll check this area first.

Check the rear section all the way through the b-pipe to the cat. It could be a rusted flange, a rusted hanger, etc. I've had both.
