My exhaust near the B-pipe is is now banging like crazy when I drive. I looked underneath the car and noticed the rubber hanger is slightly ripped making the exhaust hang low hitting the cross brace where the pipe is. It seems like a simple fix, except I also noticed a metal piece (possibly a brace??) that was once connected to the pipe and now is rusted off. This metal piece is connected to the bottom of the hanger. I don't know for sure..but I was wondering if anybody had a pic of their stock B-pipe where the hanger is installed? I want to get a general idea of what this metal is supposed to look like (as compared to mine). I'll try to take a pic tomorrow when it's daylight to explain further to what I'm referring to. But, for now, anybody with pics of their stock B-pipe will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

yeah, i'd recommend hose clamps from home depot...or lowes for that matter

i saw my exhaust get raised up after tighten them...or you can try nismo exhaust hangers, they help too

These Home Depot clamps....are you talking about the ones with the metal strap that wraps around a loop and tightens with a screw?

After re-reading your post, if the metal rod/hanger piece from your b-pipe is rusted off, the hose clamp will not help you since there is nothing holding the pipe to the rubber hanger. Get under there and verify that first. If the metal hanger is broken, you'll need to get it welded back. Or you can just add some washers to lower the cross brace or remove the cross brace to eliminate the banging.

Before someone asks whether removing the cross braces is advisable, I don't know, but I have none under my car now (and its been that way for 10k miles) and have had no issues whatsoever.

Yeah, thanks. No, it seems the metal hanger is still good. It's still welded in place. It's the rubber hanger that is split. But, after crawling under there more thoroughly, it seems that there is some kind of metal that was somewhat welded onto the pipe and now is rusted off. It's hard to explain. I'm going to get my a$$ out there and take some pics. Thanks, Puppetmaster. I'll post some results soon.

Well your not alone. This happened to me a while back so I had it welded back into place and put a hoseclamp.

As for the update: Yeah, it seems that the metal piece that is welded onto the pipe (that helps hold up the rubber hanger) has rusted somewhat and broke loose. It's not completely broken off, but enough where it got stretched and bent to drag the exhaust to hang lower, banging the cross brace. What I did was bent it back into shape and bought one of those hose clamps to tighten it more to the pipe. It seems to hold for now, and no more banging. But, I want it to be more secure, because I know this won't last this long. I was wondering, though, if the pipe and muffler is still good (though a little rusty), can I have a muffler shop weld a new metal piece onto the pipe to keep it secure from coming loose? The reason I ask this, is that the pipe is quite rusty, and I don't want to buy a whole new B-pipe just to secure it's hanging, whereas I can save money for a repair. (I bought a new rubber hanger BTW, but what good is it if the metal bracket on the pipe to hold it isn't any good.) Thanks for you're input guys.

yes, they can weld a new hanger on no problem.

Thanks Irish, I'll go out tomorrow and try to get it done. Anyone know a fair price on how much a muffler shop would charge for this type of repair? I don't want to shop all over my area for a simple weld job repair looking for a fair price. Thanks!

you should be able to just give the guy like $20 and have him do it "off the book". I know thats what we would do at the garage i work at. But if your b-pipe is rusty like you saw, you might as well go to autozone and buy one for like $120. Its not that expensive as I bought one like 5 months ago.

Same thing happened to me 3 months ago at that same hanger....... was driving me nuts with the clanging sound on bumps. Went to a local Monroe Muffler by my school and gave the guy $20 to grind away a little rust and weld it back. So far so good and its holding together.
