black for blacking out hids

ill be starting my blacked out/dde 02/03 hid project soon i was just wondering what kind of paint to use, im still at a toss between gloss, flat, or satin black. what would yall suggest i have a black car so gloss would make sence, but i figure satin would look more professional if that makes sence. almost like they came like that.

anyone have pics of the 3 types of black i could use to compare.

thanks all!

I think you should go with the flat black color, or the satin black dont do gloss.

Hi temp paint will be needed, I painted my 2000 factory head lights and by the next day the non-hi temp paint was already fading in the headlight path. I would assume HID's would run even hotter.

actually hid's run a lot cooler than halogens so it doesn't get hot and don't need to use hi temp paint.

Don't use the gloss, you don't want the paint to shine or reflect in the headlight. I went with satin black which looks nice but I prob would use flat if I did it over again. I also used a plastic primer I got from lowe's to help the paint adhere and it worked great. Make sure you take your time masking off the headlight and spray multiple thin coats as opposed to only a few thick coats to avoid runs. I used about 6 thin coats and allowed a lot of time in between for them to dry. Make sure you use a damp towel on a cookie sheet in the oven that way you will not melt the housing, mine turned out great.
