Isnt the point of staggerd wheels to have the drive wheels bigger/wider for the increase in traction? If so why would you have the rear wheels on a FWD car wider than the front wheels?
Someone fill me in......

chris'smax has staggered 18's with 18x10 in the back. IMO it looks REALLY good, especially up close.

A lot of people buy the G35 Coupe 17's (17x7 front, 17x8 rear, I believe) and mount them. Check out the G35 Wheels Sticky in the Tire & Wheels Forum

If i had the money i would get staggered rims too... the reason why ppl buy them is because our rear wheels do not come flush/close to the fender as the front wheels do.

you could also use wheel spacers to make the rear wheels more flush/close to the fender.

Donate to the site so you can search, and you will know what wider rear wheels can do to your handling.

I dont care what people say, staggered wheel on a max look really hot. I know that's going to be my next set-up probably 18 x 8.5 front and 18 x 9 rear.

IIRC, Larrio's wheels are staggered too. Look for his thread in the Member's Rides. He has 18x9 and 18x9.5 Enkei RPF1s.

If you stagger your wheels on a FWD car it will handle like crap. For looks yes it is hot, but if you are going to do that convert your max to RWD then stagger and you will have something that is actually fun to drive.

I agree! Staggered wheels on a front wheel drive car is a total poser move. The guys in my town with RWD will laugh you right out of town.

However, if you must do a staggered setup, check out the Axia staggered for FWD cars. All they do is alter lip depth while leaving the rim width the same.

You need to read up on a thing called PHYSICS OF HANDLING- FWD explained. Sure if you bolt up a set of staggered wheels to a STOCK or any of the crappy aftermarket springs you can put on a Maxima, the car WILL understeer and handle terrible.

If you have some good coilovers- JIC is the only brand here, you can alter your spring rate, toy around with the handling of your car.... I can "drift" my FWD Maxima without touching the Ebrake..... that is WHY I need wider rear wheels and tires- to stop it from oversteering, which is BETTER than my none existant understeer.

BTW- I would never put Axis wheels on any of my cars.

search before you make assumptions. I have staggered wheel set up on my car, and i felt as if the car felt a lot stable... a lot better cornering through the turns.

I wouldn't put Axis on my car either. It's BBS for me.

I am sure thet you can make your Maxima handle well with your staggered wheels, I NEVER SAID THAT IT COULD NOT BE DONE! However, as you yourself state, it's not an easy slap together task.

That being said, you're drifting the wrong car. Why would anyone want to drift a FWD car anyways. Is it even possible? Once you hit the throttle you pull yourself out of the drift. Real drifting is blasting the gas through the turn. You're just reliving your Big Wheel days. I just saying!

I dont think he is trying to drift... i think he was basically got rid of the understeer and ended up w/ a ****load of oversteer... and to counter the oversteer he put on the staggered wheels.

Look for me in the 2007 D1 GrandPrix in my FWD Maxima !

Seriously in the way I set up my suspension I ended up having a car that will not understeer even under the most wicked conditions, but the rear end would step out very eassy. To cure that problem I installed larger rear wheels through carefull calculations, I didn't wanna induce any understeer, but I wanted to tame down the oversteer- I came up with a very neutral handling car- at the limit it just slides sideways.

BBS are nice wheels, but expenssive, weak and heavy. You are paying for a name that is pretty much it. I've had BBK RKs on my other car before... Its called Rays Engineering 'ishes !

The wheels are Blitz 01's. 17x8 with a +30 offset and 17x9 with a +27 offset (235/45/17 Advan tires) in the rear.

Wider rear wheels is a common oversteer correction. Depending on what you're going to be doing with the car and your handling goals, its not that bad of an idea, even for FWD cars.

As already stated, doing wider rears in conjunction with other suspension mods can still result in a nicely handling FWD car.

No, the G35C 18" wheels are not staggered. The 17" ones are.
