5th Gen / 5.5 Gen Header Thread
Altima has a different Ypipe. Also the subframe is totally different on a Altima vs our Maximas. You can't use Altima headers on a Maxima- unless its a 6th gen.
02+ Altima is pretty much a 04+ Maxima.
We have a crossmember on our 4-5th gens, 6th+ gen has a big subframe/cradle under the car with no crossmember. Hence why the Ypipe is different.

As for OBX, you get what you pay for IMO.
Go Cattman or don't bother.
Does anyone know how the SFR headers are overall in generall compared to other headers such as cattman or hotshot?

going on tomorrow...woot!
If you see closely theres an egr valve on the header. Even though my car is an 03, Brian said it just wouldnt be used but rather when Im ready to sell, I can expand my selling base to not only 02-03 maximas, but 95-03 since they use the EGR.
Where is the leak? If it's at the engine, just re-use the OEM triple layers. If it's anywhere else, you can stop by any auto store for some gaskets... it's more about how you tighten them (alternate, etc,...)
I reused the OEM gaskets, as advised on the forum. The leak is coming from the front set i believe. It is at the engine.
I had a leak about two weeks ago, but it was because I used the crappy supplied gaskets. What I think is best for you to do is to remove the front exhaust manifolds and remove the gasket so you can scrape and clean the surface on the engine. This will remove all the grime that might've been building up 'til now. Give that a shot.
If i go to a custom exhaust shop, cant i just replace the precats with regular exhaust piping? I figure the CE light will go on but does anyone think performance will be affected? i mean i hear its the precats that really kill performance in the whole exhaust.
Somewhat Stock sound, but with O2s and performance?
Here's the deal. I've searched and just can't find that this question has been addressed. My 2002 SE exhaust is rusty and will need to replace the entire exhaust in the next year. I want performance, but want to avoid an embarrasing exhaust note when when the family and I are picking up my mother for mothers day, eh? So here are my priorities
Please respond with your solutions to this issue. Mixed manufacturer parts lists are OK, but I'd prefer to drop my cash on one manufacturer who has an established reputation. I want to know they are likely to be there if I need to replace something. No fly-by-nights please.
I very much look forward to people's opinions in response to my quest, but first-hand experience is much preferred to second-hand. Hear-say is not worthy of a response.
Thank you in advance for your help.
- Near stock sound, throaty OK, but no rasp.
- I want to avoid SES lights, so all cats need to be there, but I have no problem having threaded bungs added.
- Must fit with the Blehmco LTB II
- Performance

help with header install
I am finally having a shop install the headers that have been collecting dust in my room for six months and they are running into problems. Please help!
they say the headers are missing the rear 02 bungs and would have to have them welded on, and something about the wiring having to be too close to the axle which isn't safe...I had them explain it several times but it was kinda confusing. Does anyone have some pics of cattman headers installed in their 02 max that I could show them? They are also worried about fitment issues.
This is the only pic of the headers I have since they didn't have a digital camera there at the time. Can anyone look at these and tell if they should fit my 02 max se?
Thanks
Ryan

Those are the correct headers and there are no rear O2 bungs. You have to either weld the bungs into your b-pipe and extend your O2 sensor wiring for the sensors to reach or just use an O2 sim to get rid of the CEL.
The information and links to threads with details are in the first post of this thread under Oxygen Sensors.

Does anyone have some detailed instructions I can give him to try and use the o2 sim, or instructions on how to hardwire it in? And can you hard wire it up, not use the o2 sim, and not have to have the new bungs welded on?
I managed to lose my installation instructions, and Brian from Cattman is out all this week for the holidays. Thanks in advance for any help guys...I reaaallly appreciate it. Also, if you've installed them yourself before I could have the guy installing them call you and ask a few questions if that would be easier than writing something up for me.

I did purchase and supply the o2 sim to the shop installing the headers but the guy said that normally the o2 sim's don't work very well and he recommended hard wiring it up.

Thank you, I managed to miss that when search through this post

In case he cannot do that for some reason, is it possible to wire it up without using the o2 sim and also without having to weld on new bungs?
///EDIT///
Oh ya, and if anyone has some undercar pics of their cattman headers installed can you please post them? My mechanic was holding the catback piece under the car and said the angles were quite a bit different than the stock piping and said he thought it may not fit. I know it must fit though! It has to! I've waited too long to get these installed to not have it work lol =)

he needs to keep both the front and rear manifolds lose to line up the y pipe, if he tightens up the front and rear and then does the y it wont fit...

The O2 sim install is the one of the easiest things to do on this car. Use the O2 sim and leave the secondaries plugged into the harnesses and call it a day. I've had the O2 sim for 3 years and have been code free. For what it's worth, I've also passed two VA state emissions inspections.

What sort of catback do you have?
Anyway, here's a picture of mine if it'll help:

i have been reading the thread for a couple of days now. in one of the post it said the the 4th gens and the 5th gen have the same y pipe i think. so i have a guestion will most 95-99 header systems fit a de-k 01?
if this is a stupid question or it has already been answered then i appologize in advance.

A little late to reply, but someone gave me an idea a very long time ago and just wondering if anyone thinks this will work. What would happen if someone with a 5.5 gen bought 3 liter OEM exhaust manifolds and a 3.0 y-pipe. I have a feeling it would probably fit, and would give comparable gains to the 3 liter y-pipe swap. Or am I way off?

Explain your problem a little further.
