I am trying to figure out the best shift points for the car. I am actually shifting right at redline, but I don't know if this is the best place!

Do they make shift ***** for these cars, or even short throw shifters for that matter?

Don't you love Newbie's! I am just trying to find out all I can before I start modding this thing!

You are shifting at the right spot!! Unfortunately, max hp is right at red-line.

its better if they raised redline to 7000rpm.. then u could fall back into the power band.. 2002 3.5 vq will be a 6500-6600 redline and max power at 5800.. pretty good shift points.

when i race, i just shift at the red-line...
i never go pass the red line cuz...i wanna protect my engine as much as possible..
on a dyno chart, my car showed a sudden jump of hps right on the red-line(6,600-6,700rpm), a jump of about 3-4 hps and then it sharply fell down after the red-line area..
so i'm guessing it's pretty useless to shift past the red line..

You can't shift past redline - fuel is cut.

Yes, at red-line in any gear, fuel is cut to the engine. This is to prevent you from damaging your engine by overreving (100% protection on an auto but not on a 5spd). If you want a demonstration in your auto, just keep it in 1 or 2 and go to redline. The car wants to pull past redline but it will hit fuel cut and the fuel will be cut for a split second. If you leave your foot on the gas you will hit it several times in a row.

on auto, if you hit the red-line by holding gears at 1st or 2nd, the car will automagically shift up(even tho your shifter is still stuck at 1st or 2nd gear...)to prevent any further engine damage...it won't just cut you off....

thats not true at all.... i can bounce my rev limiter all day long and it wont shift up..... it shifts when i shift it! i know on the BMW and ACURA short shift it automatically shifts itself up at red line but when i am in 1 and floor it to red line it will bounce it until i shift it...... same with 2 and if we didnt have a rev limiter the car would make more power........... for a red line to be the spot where the car makes max hp it would easily make power to around 7000....... i wish they could take the gov and rev limiter off!
