2k-2k1 headlight housing problem & Q about AE mod

This morning i got up to go to a friends house and when i got there i noticed my passengerside housing had condensation on the inside so now that i know that that one is leaky, what kind of sealant can i use to reseal the housings. Also im planning on doing the AE headlight mod while im at it... well i had an accident a while back and i was playing w/ one of my old headlights and i was ondering if i can just paint the whole peice, because i was gonna paint the reflector thingy (dunno what to call it) and i put masking tape and the tape pulled off some of the material that lines where the turnsignal bulb is. I tried rubbing with no avail before tryign to paint. Any tips, sory for the long topic.

You shouldnt need anymore sealent. I have opened up my headlights twice and they are still sealed with no condensation. What I would do is go ahead and bake them 10-15 on 210-220 open them up this will take a while.

The embezel inside that you want to paint is held in by 2 screws. By taking it out you dont risk painting the reflective housing the bulb sits in. I would use some engine enamel so you know it is going to last. I used duplicolor for the record. Also when putting it back together be carefull the painted parts for some reason the sealant reacts to it and eats the paint. Rebake and press is a clamp or somethimg all the way around to make sure it hasa good seal and that should take care of the condensation.

If not there is some oem sealant I would get from nissan I forget exact name but call a serive department and they will give you the name. I remember it is pretty inexpensive 8-10 dollor per tube if I remember. I would try doing all the steps first and seeing if you even need the sealant. Hope this helps.

Hehe ive already taken apart my old set of yellow hazed headlights before, so you just painted the whole embezel? ive sceen writeups where they masked off certain areas then painted. But i tried doing that and the masking take took off some of the chrome material.

But my real main concern is that my headlight has condensation arleady in it, this should fix it right? Monday ill go to the stealership and get a tube of that stuff.

I know this is kinda walking on eggshels for what im about to ask but can someone PM me the proper way to take out the pass headlight housing w/ out having to breaking or damaging the clip and or housing... that clip is like 5 bux :/

They

They have tape that is special for masking off areas you dont want to paint it is blue in color. Make sure you by a good brand like 3M because all blue tape is not created equal. Also remember not to push the tape on so hard. A light touch is all you need.

I would contact Dave B for the part number or search the post someone has pujt it up before. I think it is a high temp silicone sealent but has a certain name it comes in a sort of toothpaste tube. Hope that helps you really shouldnt need any. I would rebake and use clamps and see where you stand from there. I have opened mine twice no condensation.
