Broken rear caliper bolt pin

I broken my read caliper bolt pin which I was in the process to change my pads. Any idea why this would break and how often has anyone had to replace them?

Any suggestions where I could get the replacement bolts -- or it is something I need to get from the dealer...

Yeah, I did the same thing when I changed my rear pads last week. The bolt is real soft, and easy to break if a lot of stress is put on it. Not to worry, the caliper bolt and pin are real cheap. I got one at the dealer for $15.00. If you find a replacement bolt of the same type, it will be a little stronger. Just make sure it's stainless or zinc plated so that it won't rust.

Good heavens, I used a drill bit to remove the broken bolt off the pin. I was quoted $31.99 for one bolt+pin setup, I now have to just get the bolt from the dealer.

What sucks is I don't remember the last time I applied anti-sieze to the bolt, I guess my fault but based on the reply, I am not the only one to go thro this issue. I wonder how a bolt could be this soft becoz since I owned this vehicle I have replaced my pads only once, meaning the bolt was touched only once!!!

a co-worker had a spare one laying around and gave it to me. lucky for me. but it was a 12mm instead of 14, but thread size was correct so fine with me.

Just so you guys know, the bolts are the same size on multiple generations, so if your part dept says their out of stock for your year, ask about prior years as well.

Thank you SEmy2K2go your suggestion will definetly help.

I got a stop-gap 1 inch 5/16 fine thread bolt from HomeDopot but the sucker will only go half way into the pin. My caliper is just hanging with this bolt till I get the right bolt from the dealer.

These Japanese bolts too are made super fine... I fail to understand how the same thread bolt will not go it all the way. My guess that is the difference between a $.10 bolt vs $X.x that I will be charged by the dealer, will know tomorrow. Can't wait to put the bolt all the way into the caliper pin.!!!

Nissan's been using the same rear braking system on their Maximas for generations. The caliper bolt is a common part. All it is, is a pin that slides into the caliper, held by a 14mm bolt.

Yep, the 3rd gen uses the same pin/bolt setup as on my 5.5. (found this out after doing a brake job on tripleGmax's car).
