Axle seal leaking, end play inside - HELP

So my axle seal is leaking bad, drivers side on a MT with original 130k miles. I've out in two new seals and no luck. What I read is that its most likely diff. bearing.

Also there is lots of end pplay in the axle once its clicked in.

Oil doesn't leak when tranny is spinning, only when stopped. I can just puch on the axle upwards, and it drippes like crazy.

What I read from 4th gens that its common. I am wondering if anyone done it??? Is there something else I need to replace while there. Some schmo at local dealer told me I'll need final gear because it has to broken off to take stuff out. Is this correct?

Also, how much end play should there be in the axle? Can't find that info in the FSM.

I am about to call Dave B for parts and the car is on the jacks now.

I would appreciate any help and insight..

Thanks

Your axle bearing is shot.

Kinda like mine, It's time for a transmission rebuild or a brand new transmission.

Sounds like you were having the same issue i was.

this should answer most of your questions.

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=473230

i've replaced my diff bearings, input shaft bearings & seal, as well driver and passenger sides axle seals. i've also filed down the synchros a lil bit so they weren't notchy anymore. i bought new ones in case i had to replace, since i didn't they're in the 5th gen FS section.

almost done project, have to bleed clutch since i disconnected it by accident.

good luck.

Does anyone know where you can get online internal parts for the tranny? Like gears, seals, etc..

Thanks

OK, One more question... Where can I get those stupid shims for the differential bearings..???? None of the dealers around Boston have it, AAMCO doesn't have any. Everyone has to order until next week..

Where else can I try????

Thanks

you can either use the ones that are there or contact DaveB here on the board.
