New Car need advise

Hi guys I recently picked up a 2002 Nissan Maxima SE(no leather or sunroof, but in good condition) with 110k miles on it for $10300 OUT THE DOOR from my local dealership. I didnt want to buy from the dealer but it seemed like a decent deal. The car had the previous owners info in it and I called him. He said that the car ran fine and that he needed a bigger vehicle. Also the milage is highway miles(if it makes a difference). Their was a recipt for new tires put on 4k miles ago ($800) and oil change/service history. My question is that at the dealership they offered me a 2yr/24 month service contract for $1900. I was wondering if you guys think its worth it? I've heard stories of people getting screwed when they try to get a repair done because the company finds a way to make it "not covered". Thanks in advanced for any opinions.

Highway mileage and city mileage is different due to the starting and stopping involved in city driving.

If it's all highway, I wouldn't be too worried about it.. then again, parts wear out eventually, regardless of what type of miles they are..

If you plan on keeping it stock (for the most part) *no major mods* I would suggest the warranty for peace of mind. But if you plan on modding I would just forget about it because they will use any reason for an excuse to void your warranty.

$1,900 sounds way too high.

See if AAA can offer you a similar price for half the price!!!

Save the bucks!

thanks

What exactly does this "service contract" entail? My Nissan Gold Preferred (or whatever that crap was called) is supposedly 7 years/100k miles and it cost me less than what you're paying.

Also, I've never had to use my service plan for anything so it hasn't been worth it for me thus far.

Yeah I plan on keeping it stock, I'll have to read the service contract with a fine tooth comb to look for any exceptions. I only want to drive it for like 1 year then get into a 6th gen. Im a long time nissan fan but the 3.5L engines give more than enough power even at 100k+, this car really impresses me.

The service contract is provided by Fidelity and becuase of the milage the only options available are the powertrain and the Silver, which includes: Engine Internals,Transmission,Drive Axle, Steering,Brakes,Airconditioning,Front Suspension, and Electrical.

However in the contract it says this.

Exclusions from coverage:This service contract will not pay or reimburse you for:
14. Burnt Valves, worn rings,THE CORRECTION OF OIL CONSUMTION, any repairs for reduction in engine efficiency that must be performed on your vehicle.
Now Ive had the car for a couple of days and havent noticed any oil consumtion, but its not covered anyways. That would be an expensive repair so I think Ill keep my $1900 in the bank and use it for anything down the road. And Im pretty handy so any minor repairs I can do.

I've got a 3 year, 36K mile package with Universal Underwriters Group, and I paid $1400. There is a $100 deductable (waived if I get the repairs done by the dealer I purchased from)

It coveres everything, bumper to bumper including electrical, heating/cooling, powertrain, etc.

There was 2 things that it didn't cover, but i forgot what. I remember it was relatively minor.

Its called the "Preferred" plan.

It also includes roadside assistance.

See Four that sounds like a good deal. $1400 and it covers bumper to bumper. Because of my car having 110k on it they cant give the "preferred" plan. I just dont want to buy something and when its time to use it find that its not covered. I read one "story online" about a guy that went to use his coverage and the adjuster for the service company said that their was sludge in his oil pan and that they wouldnt replace his motor. Thats the kind of surprise that I can do without.

yea, its hit and miss with these companies. I reserched the company before agreeing to purchase the contract. There are some Mazda guys who've had success with Universal Underwriters.

Same thing for the same or half of the same.

I paid for a 5yr/100k 'Platinum Service' + GAP insurance for about the same price. (1700)
