brembo drilled vs. powerslot

Hey guys i am trying to buy new brake rotors and pads. from reading the forums i am guessing the Hawk hps are the best. Now what would you recomend for the rotors. I am going for both performance and mostly the looks. If you guys will recomend something else please do. I like the drilled rotors the most, so that would be my first preference. but i am ok with the sloted as well. i just dont want the blank ones.

i need them for both the front and the back. thanks

get drilled and slotted in the front and slotted in the rear... i mean ur brakes in the front do like 80% of the work.....

I heard brembo's are good...

do not upgrade your stock rotors or pads!!! it is pointless, waste of money. get a 300zx BBK. it is the most reasonable and good way to go.

I recommend good old Brembo blanks, you don't need/feel the benefits of drilled or slotted on the street.

you'll want to make sure they are rustproofed (if going for looks)

BTW, Brembo doesn't offer x-drilled rotors for 2002-2003. If you see one, that means the rotors are x-drilled by third party (not Brembo) and will probably void any warranty that comes with the rotors.

Well, you have a ton of choices for pads and rotors, I went with a drilled/slotted rotor from R1 Concepts on my 2000 Max, but I haven't needed rotors or pads on my 03. I put the the R1 Concept d/s rotors along with the Axxis Ceramic Pads and loved the way they looked and stopped my vehicle. I ran them for 50K miles with no problems and sold the car with 130K miles on it. They zinc plate the rotors so they don't start rusting for a while, but you can't hold it back forever. When I need rotors and pads on my 03, I will probably order from R1. I don't push my car very hard and I like the looks of the cross drilled rotors.

If you are going to Autocross or push them to the limits, then look for the Brembo's or possibly some type of BBK, but I don't think Brembo makes a D/S rotor.

I installed drilled and slotted rotors and they crack. be smart and don't make the same mistakes a lot of people did. get slotted but drilled is pointless.

I had drilled and slotted rotors from R1 and I didn't have any problems with mine cracking. I had them on my 2000 max for almost 50K miles and never had a problem. Ran them with the Axxis Ceramic pads. I was very happy with them. The dusting was extremely low and my stopping distances were much improved with very little fade, if any.

that's the worst advice I've heard all day.

Blanks have the most surface contact area. Therefore, they provide the best braking. Slotted and drilled do not (I repeat DO NOT) improve braking performance on a street-driven car....Most tracked cars use blanks, for that matter.

Yeah, get drilled and slotted front and slotted rear if you like having your front rotors crack and having all of your rotors be noisy. Oh and if you like your pads to wear down extra fast.

^^^ - This is the suggestion I would make as well.

Drilled and slotted will not offer much (if any) increase in braking performance over blanks.

When I did the 300ZX BBK conversion on my 4th gen I bought my Zinc coated 13" cobra rotors from these guys, the rotors were awesome, no noise issues, or cracking, I agree with IRISH44j about contact area, and it can be hit and miss when it comes to xdrilled and slotted rotors for noise and cracking etc so many places screw up the process. Also as mentioned Brembo are blanks only, drilled and or slotted ones are by third parties and that's where things can go wrong. But here's the link to Stopchek Maxima front and rear Rotors xdrilled and slotted, zinc coated so no rusting around the hubs etc ( bonus) and I'm sure they are of the same quality as the cobra's I bought from them. Another route to go is to buy 2005 Maxima front calipers and source out some 12.6" Maxima rotors to improve braking power a few people are going that route there are threads and writeups on this and they directly bolt up with no brackets etc. Hope this helps and good luck, here's the link:

These guys are also very good!

Looks is subjective. I like the look of some big, blank 12.5" rotors . I think XD and slotted look ricey. Looks are personal opionin though....

I would NOT get any drilled rotors at all. If you abosolutely can't stand to have some smooth, shiny blanks then get powerslots, as they seem to be the best quality.

Just don't tell anyone that you bought them for performance at all....

Installed f/r drilled and slotted Brembo oem rotors from ebay vender, with Hawk pads front and rear from pepboys. Car stops crazy fast, with strong grip at last few feet.
As far as drilled , slotted or blanks, my descision was cosmetic, drilled and slotted looked nice.

If you do alot of commuting, or stop and go, you'll be cleaning your the dust off your wheels every other day.

I'm working on duct work for front rotors, anyone do this mod for 5th gens?
