Radio Reception Issues- SOLVED

Ok, I've searched previous threads regarding horrible radio reception but none of these threads told me what is the issue. I've had the car for over 3 yrs now with a aftermarket HU. Radio reception was perfect until about 6 months ago. I checked the connections to the HU and took a look at the rear window antenna. Everything looked fine. What else could be the issue? I have tint on the rear but radio was working fine with it for over 2 yrs. This is the third HU I've installed. Anyone else had/have this issue, and if so, what did you do to fix the problem? Thanks for any help.

I have this problem too, except it started exactly when i got my HU installed. I even paid 12 bucks for an antenna adapter, the reception w/ the bose was pretty good for the most part now with this alpine i can only get stations in the city where they come from, not up the road a few miles or even 15-20 miles like i used to.

Give me $13/month and the equipment and I will gladly have Sirius.

Now back to the problem at hand, I read in some old threads that some looney toons were connecting there yellow 12v wire and blue wires (amp/antenna) together. This sounds kind of......nuts. I guess they said the antenna in the rear window was only made for the stock HU which is bs anyways cause I had aftermarket radio in there for 2 yrs and it worked fine. Is there a antenna amp of some kind in this vehicle?

Bascially, the rear window antenna in our Maxima is a powered antenna. When you are installing your HU, you need to connect the power antenna lead to the stereo, or you will not be powering on and off your antenna, leading to crap reception, especially on AM.

I am not sure if this is applicable to you, since it only happened in the last 6 months, but that is the most common problem when ppl are installing aftermarket HUs in the 5th gen.

I will have to look back there again. Maybe when I swapped out radio's I forgot to do this. I currently have my blue's connected to just my amp wire. Thanks for the info. I will have to double check my craftmanship.

SOLVED the issue. Me and my infinite wisdom "forgot" to hook up the factory pwr antenna wire. I had my blue antenna wire from HU going directly to amp wire. Spliced in all 3 blue's and radio is back in business! Thanks ya'll!

that freak'n sucks! I've been wondering why my am/fm reception sucked so bad. I just put in a double din and since the antenna is on the back window, I never thought the factory power antenna wire was needed. So now I have to take that btch out to hookup the damn blue wire. Why does it need power if there's no actual antenna/motor combo? Anyways... thanks!

I have this problem too, it's been driving me crazy. I original had the non-bose system in my car, now has aftermarket HU new speakers and sub. I have a black antenna wire going into my HU, are you saying I splice the blue "ANT REM" wire onto the black antenna wire, or that I should have a second wire for my antenna in there somewhere?
