2001 Transmission Control Module in a 2000....
Has anyone put a 2001 (31036-4Y901 not the 31036-4Y960 from Dave B) TCM in their 2000 Maxima? Did the slam into second gear stop? and the off timing shifts?
Thanks
Thanks

and yes it is more expensive. the 31036-4Y901 is around $400 and the 31036-4Y960 (the one i bought) around $750 (from dave b)!!!

Nissan are real bast..rds. They make N # of revisions to the TCM and expect us to pay $750 for a better ride. I feel disgusted.

soonerfan : Are you sure this damn TCM cannot be programmed with the latest/greatest revision?
If the wiring is the same (coming from ECM and tranny solenids) at the input of the TCM, then it should have a EPROM or some firmware..

As far as I know, TCM cannot be reprogrammed... I have bought a -901 from a wrecker and have it in mine... It is not slipping in any gear... IMO, if you want to save a few $, go with solenoids and a used 901... If I had $, I'd get a new tranny and 960

I found a 4Y900 out of a 2001 at a junkyard around the corner from me, they only want $40, so I think I am gonna give it a shot.
^since Igzy said the --901 worked, I assume this one should too... guess well find out.

Give it a shot though the TSB 039 calls for -901... I guess for $40 it won't hurt to try
I paid $200 for mine...
I would also recommend that you change your tranny oil if you have not done so lately and continue with it every 20K or so... I find that helps a great deal in reducing of slipping...

I found a junkyard with the 901 for $60 shipped, but the $40 is right around the corner from my house

wait a minute, center console? I thought it was behind the radio?
the junkyard around the corner sold me a box with one plug hole in it, and I have just figured out that it is the ASCM for the cruise control (really bright guys over there)

It works!!! right now the first to second shift is still not as smooth as my mothers 2003 SE TE, but it is sooo much better than it was, no more slamming into second. It also seems to be getting better the longer I drive it, I only drove it for about 10 min, so well see by the end of tomorrow.
The part # on the TCM I got was: 31036-4Y900 (not the 4Y901 that other junkyards had) so I was a little worried if it would work.

When you guys replaced the TCM, did you also replace the solenoids?
Like I posted before, I felt my tranny slipping between gear 1 and 2 and a slight jump when it goes into 2. At first, whenever I would drive the car for more than an hour, it would just do a slight jump between 1 and 2. Like a little kick that was hardly noticable. Once my IACV went and I had an insane high idle, I think I made it worse. After searching for a correct TCM, and with reading, I see that there was a TSB for both the TCM and solenoids. Do you guys recommend I just replace the TCM and see if it helps and if not also get the solenoids.
Also, what are the part numbers for the solenoids?
And, where in the car exactly is the TCM, is it inside the car or under the hood?
Edit : I just purchased a TCM from a jankyard for 70.00 online shipped for the updated 2001 Part number 31036-4Y901
There are a few on car-part.com under transmission computers

my 2001 has got to where sometimes it will just stop shifting or pop out of gear. If I cut it off and right back on it resets and shifts just fine..Is this the TCM causing the prob? i got no other probs with the trans outside of that..still pulls and shifts smooth the rest of the time!
