5.5 Gen Changed Plugs and Now Transmission not downshifting on time?

The title pretty much sums up what I am experiencing but here is more detail.

I changed my plugs on my 02 GLE Auto at 60k with some NGK iridiums about 2 weeks ago. After everything was installed I got a CEL code for the Ethrottle, which I expected due to it being unplugged. So I read in the FSM that anytime this happens you need to do the relearn procedures for the Throttle Closed etc. and Idle Air Learn and I have done all 3 and the codes are gone and haven't come back and I also reset the ECU for good measure.

Anyhow for some reason I am now getting a strange resistance for the transmission to downshift to 1st when coming to a complete stop. Its like I get a lot of Engine Braking from 10mph to 0 and you can feel each gear change from, 4th to 3rd and then to 2nd and then to 1st. The downshifting of the tranny was definitely smoother when coming to a stop prior to all this and its getting on my nerves and I have no idea what is happening. I don't have any Codes at all and it drives perfectly other than this.

Any Ideas? Thanks.

Anyone at all with a 5.5 gen Auto ever had or have heard of this strange resistance to downshift when coming to a stop?

What RPM is your cars idle at? When I took off my intake to change my plugs I cleaned and evidently screwed up my throttle body which led me to have a high idle. I was idling around 950 RPM and I felt what you are describing when coming to a stop. I eventually got a high idle error code.

Yeah, my idle was high ~900 like you mention, right after as well and my error code showed up almost instantly. I cleared that code by resetting the ecu and after 500 miles and 3 weeks of driving it has not returned. Also as I mentioned I did the 3 different idle reset/air learning procedures and they seemed to take.

I don't understand why this is happening as the car runs excellent, power is good, throttle response is pretty good for our crappy auto tranny. I asked a Nissan Tech guy I know to see if he will run the consultII on it when he gets a chance and see if there is anything out of spec. I gave him my symptoms and he couldn't think of anything off the top of his head.

All I can think is maybe the lock-up portion of the converter isn't disengaging, maybe due to a slightly Off signal from the TPS even after the reset, as it also seems to be the worst when coming all the way from 4th to 1st at a complete stop. I have noticed some slight 4th gear highway speed engine braking that wasn't noticeable before.

I would try redoing all three relearns in order again, although I think it is the Throttle Closed Pos. Sw. Learn that is the problem.

I will try them again, I have done all 3 twice already. I agree with you as I think the Throttle Closed is the one that is giving me fits. If the tranny is seeing a part throttle on a coast down then the only thing causing it to downshift is the coming to a stop and that is where the whole downshifting/engine braking is coming from.
THANKS For the Good Advice.
