I recently got cel light and was able to pull the codes. It came up with P1320 which is ignition coil and also P0304 which is a cylinder 4 misfire. I probably will end up just replacing one so I need to know which one it is.

 

dont have the diagram in front of me but i think its the middle one in the front bank, either front or back, i think front tho.

 

Anyone know for sure?

Thanks for the diagram and all. I was able to talk to a nissan technician and he also told me it's the front one in the middle.

 

Definately the middle one on the front. A few years back I had a misfire and a code (2000 Maxima). The stealership said it was #4 ignition coil and replaced it. They charged $250 - seemed steep and I squealed as it only had 34k miles. But it was 2 months past the 36 month warranty and they said not covered by warranty. Since then I see there is a TSB on this. I bet if I had it in hand I could have got it covered...

I just replaced my spark plugs myself yesterday (56K miles), and lo and behold the middle front ignition coil has a big silver sticker on it (just like the thread on that says the new types have).

After seeing how easy it is to pull the ignition coil to get to the plugs (especially on the front 3), I would definately have done it myself and saved some cash.

 

What plugs did you get? The stock NGK ones or something else? What did you pay for each, and did you gap them to spec?

 

I got the Stock NGK plugs (platinum). Now you'll probably cringe - I paid $9.99 ea at Advanced Auto Parts, and did not gap them. I eyeballed them against the old plugs to make sure there was no obvious gap error. I've gapped a lot of plugs in past, rarely ever had any quality plugs off (esp the type where the tip is protected in the box w a plastic sleeve). Bottom line was I lost my gap tool and needed to get the job done .

 

Platinum plugs are usually pre gapped, but it never hurts to check, the factory spec replacement plugs are expensive, where as the generic replacement Platinums are much cheaper but for the amount of times they need to be changed, they are worth the peace of mind IMO.
