ABS light is on...how come?

A couple of days ago, my ABS light came on while driving. It only stayed on for a few minutes and then went off. It did that same thing again later that day.

Now, the light was been on solid since yesterday morning. I looked up the code in the manual, but it's not helpful at all. Anybody have experience with this and can tell me what to look for (if possible) or some common reasons for the light to come on?

Thanks for the help!

Check the actual sensors...

Make sure they are not rubbing on your control arm, thats whay mine did when I put on my D2's and I had to replace both front sensors.

The control arm cut through the insulation on the wire and shorted out the sensors.

Don't remember the actual cost... But it was around $400 for both. They are not cheap, luck me, my extended warranty paid for them.

Have you been able to check out the sensors?

I've seen some claims that a low voltage will also trigger this light. See if you can rule out the alternator and battery and bad grounds.

though you'd be able to tell if low voltage was from the battery or alternator from starting your vehicle, and interior/exterior lighting. check electrical lines to the sensor if anything

got in there today and found that on the driver's side, the ABS sensor wire was ripped in two. passenger side had significant wear, but didn't break yet.

basically both sides have been rubbing on something in my wheel well and wore completely through the wires. i cut out the bad section of wire, put on spade connectors, and triple wrapped it in electrical tape. the ABS light is off now, but we'll see how long this lasts.

any ideas for more "bulletproof" wiring protection?

Shrink tubing and wire loom.

Spade connects were not a good idea, they only allow more water/debris to enter the connection. I would have soldered and shrink wrapped for this, then gotten some thin wire loom to cover it again.

I just wrapped the hell out of my new wires in electrical tape and it has held up really well after a full year.
