Need help with Fog lamp - 2000 se

On Friday night, I noticed the driver side fog lamp will not come on. I have only had my 2000se for a few months now, so this really, really pissed me off.

Not sure if it’s a fuse, or bulb problem? Can the bulb be replaced on the fog lamp? If it’s a fuse issue, wouldn't both fog lamps go out? Is this something that can be self serviced?

Are there instructions out there on how to replace the bulb, instead of taking to a dealer? Not looking to mod anything, just get it back to stock working condition.

(I know most of the guys in here know their maxima inside/out, but I not so much. Any help greatly appreciated.)

The bulb is blown... Yes it can be changed, change both while you are at it... OEM replacements are under $10.

To change them all you have to do is jack up the front end, put the car on jack stands, go under the front bumper, you will see the splash shields right under the fog assembly, take them off.

You will be able to see the assembly from the rear, on the bottom of the assemly is a screw, take it out. The assembly will still not want to come out because you have to push on the tabs on the top. There are two white plastic tabs on the very top of the assembly, take a flat head screwdriver and push on them and it will fall right out the front of the car. Once it is out, disconnect the harness and remove the rubber backing on the assembly. Take out the bulb and replace... DO NOT TOUCH THE BULB WITH YOUR BARE HANDS! I always wear rubber gloves when I change out bulbs, the oils from your skin can blow the bulb in no time. I also clean the bulbs with denatured alcholol before I install just to be safe.

Then put everthing back togeather and enjoy your fogs.

Sweet! Thanks man! (Though I've never, EVER had to jack a car, so we shall see... Also, I live on a hill...so I might have to do this in some mall parking spot one weekend..)

Are there any bulbs I can get that are brighter than stock? Not sure if its because the car is 6 years old, but the fog's I have now seem to have very weak output. I'm not looking to get Xenon's or anything like that.... just something brighter than stock. A much more powerful white light.

There are plenty of aftermarket bulbs for them that are "brighter" but an h3 bulb is just not that bright to begin with...

If you want whiter and "brighter" try Piaa... I have Piaa headlights and I love them!

For my fogs I use oem replacement bulbs but I have Lexus Yellow Capsules retrofitted in the housing.

Pic of my fogs:

For the How-To on my fogs just search around the 5th gen forum and there are like two huge threads on it.

Stick with OEM bulbs. They cost 5.00 at most auto parts stores and last forever. I've had PIAA in my car and they blow way to fast. Not worth the money. Keep it stock

I have the PIAA's Extreme White's in my fogs well over a year now. Never had a problem of them blowing. Still going strong. The cheap stocks and regular replacement bulbs are weak. They are not too bright. Plus, they are yellowish.
