For those who have it, how much does it help. These L O N G throws are getting old quick.

It is awesome! You will wish you had it the whole time! Reduces throw by at least 25%. I highly recommend it!

what does it do? make the stick lower? or makes the gears close to each other so you dont have to shift so far?

How's the install by the way?

I saw on some other site that installing the STS (I don't know if Stillen or not) requires to go under the car bolting stuff off the cats and/or whacking some steel to make clearance for the shift throws

Changes the geometry of the actuall shifter itself. Not sure if its smaller lengthwise but it changes the geometry to the point of less distance traveled by your hand/top of shifter from top of 1 to 2 so on and so forth.

I also heard it is not a direct bolt in, that some mods were necessary. Truth or fiction.

Re: PHAT, LITTLE HELP WITH THESE

I had Avalon Racing install mine. Charged me 1hr labour (which is worth it). I watched and there was no banging or any problems which I could see. The guy who installed mine had installed many in the past and he knew exactly what he was doing. The only thing else I might suggest is synthetic tranny fluid as well especially if you live where it gets cold (I have had no problems but this was also recommend to me...haven't done it yet though). The shifting is very "notchy" (like a racing shifter) and makes driving a lot more enjoyable.
