Knock Sensor Install Write up?

Just when the modding was getting fun I throw 2 codes. The rear O2 and also knock sensor. Dealership quoted me $500+cdn for the sensor and labour. I am not paying that. I looked all over and only found "knocking, pinging threads". Anyone can help me finding a DIY write up on this? Also what would have caused the failure? I only use 91 octane and at times 94.

Thanks

Also they said I may need a new Knock Sensor harness. Is this true? or Stealership BS?

What symptoms are associated with a bad knock sensor? Car seems to run fine.

I did this on my 4th gen with the help of my son. Him being a little guy helped out alot. If it's anything like the 4th gen I may have to look to my nephew for some assistance, as my son is a little older now.

By the way when I took my KS out, it had several cracks on it. I guess this comes with age.

I say the harness doesn't need replacing.. just sand away the old corrosion on the grounding part of the KS harness...
If you get a hold of the KS and if it's like the 4th gen, I can replace it for yah, I got small hands.. lol

Once I get the part and I'm in your neck of the woods (every weekend) I'll get in touch with you.

I 2nd that. I beg of you....I have done a huge bit of surfing trying to find exactly where the Knock Sensor lives(lower plenum/but where?) in a 2001, no search would turn it up, etc. Millions of articles on the 19xx/4th gen, but 5th gen, nothing. I really don't want to go through the hassle of removing the intake if I can get at it otherwise. Does anybody have a good writeup on replacing a 2001 KS? Now I realise that I'm about to be flamed for asking as there must be thousands of writeups! I just can't find them!
thanks, Sandy

I haven't looked at it on a 5th gen.. Should not be different then a 4th gen as the parts looks the same but different part number from my understanding.

Here is a 4th gen write up with pics.

Thanks for your reply. I have read the 'motorvate' one, well written!
The problem I have is when I look at the repair CD, it shows an entirely different place! I have looked at both places pretty thoughly and can't find it....that is not to say that it isn't there, it is just that 'STUPID' can not find it and really do not want to tear everything apart.... if someone with experience with changing one out..... and therefore my asking on 5thgen.
anyone else???
thanks again,
Sandy

I haven't done one on a DE-K yet, but I remember looking at the access on a 2001 Max and thinking that it would require removal of the upper intake manifold. It did not look nearly as easy as a 4th Gen.

Roger that on the 4th gen you dont have to take off the manifold but on the 5th gen meaning 2000-2001 maximas you have to take it off as it sits under the intake manifold

You are the second Canuck from Ont. that has a rear O2 code (which code), the other chap has pinging, you've got a DTC for the knock sensor??? You mention mods........which ones. Did you disturb the intake, like around the TB area etc.? The knock sensor is buried under the intake manifold and the harness is close to the TB and intake. Did you disconnect any connectors etc?

Thank Knight. I looked this morning and Cowans you are clearly right! When looking it is clearly not visible on a 5th gen and well hidden. It is not as easy as the 4th gen.

I do have an intake, but I have never touched anything in the area. Mech said my faulty Coil could have caused it. I neglected a engine light a couple months ago as it went away the next day, then came back the other day and it was coil related. The entire time it was causing the knock to work and then wear.

Could my rear O2 be causing it also?
