The top three mods that people do are probably FSTB, RSB, and clear corners. I highly reccomend the FSTB and RSB. I myself will be getting the RSB soon. Good Luck!

Thats a trick question. Depends on whats more importent to you.

Performence wise, Intake, Y-Pipe, Exaust, Pully, Freeflow Cat (Where do you live? is your car cali or Fed spec?)

Looks wise, Bigger better rims, body Kit, Tints, Headlights, Clear corners, Wood Trim/or any dash trim. Hope this helps.

Start with coilovers? You're an evil man Kev. There are a couple of camps on the .ORG and they are divided along 1) performance, 2) handling, and 3) looks. If you decide on what's most important to you, it'll make the decisions easier.

As for me, I've chosen handling/looks as my primary.

My list depending on what you want to upgrade:

Suspension: RSB, FSTB, springs/struts
Performance: Intake, Y-pipe, UDP
Cosmetics: New lights, body kit, rims

But if you want a mix of each:

RSB, Intake, and new lights would be a good start in each area.

Hey MissMaxima. I hadn't had a chance to welcome you to the board yet.

First, three is kinda limiting...

Here is what I would probably do if I were you... considering that you have the super black max like me.

1. Carflector from Auto Vent Shade $65 www.autostyles.com/carflect.htm, or a bra, or 3m clearmask to protect the hood from rocks which notoriously cause paint chips on our cars.

2. OSCAI $55(ooglie stock cold air intake) A fairly esy mod that will offer you a couple of extra horses for a relatively small amount of money.

3. FSTB $85 (Front Strut Tower Brace) Greatly reduces understeer and gives you car greater stability around corners. www.courtesyparts.com

4. Window Tint. $250-350 I was never a big fan, but it keeps our black maxes cooler in the summer, and looks good too.

5. Zaino. $50-75 It is a wax/ polish system. Iti s expensive but works better than anything else I have come accross. You have a new car...keep it looking taht way by protectingthe paint. www.zainobros.com

6. RSB $160 (Rear Sway Bar) Will also greatly help your car's handling. www.cattman.com
www.stillen.com

7. clear side markers $65
8. new headlights and fog light bulbs $50
9. Springs and shocks $500
10. y-pipe $400
11. Under Drive Pulley $200
12. Aftermarket wheels $800-2000
13. Stillen Aero Kit $1500
14. Nitrous $500
15. Supercharger $4000
16. Big Brakes $1200

That ought to get you started.
Good Luck

Mechanically or cosmetically?

Mechanically I would say FSTB, RSB, OSCAI. Mine are being ordered as we speak. Say thanks to the IRS giving me just a little more back in August!

Cosmetic...Hmmmm. Clear corners, tint,????
I don't do much cosmetically because the wife don't like. But I can sneak in the mechanical because at this time she is unaware...Until the SC goes in

You'll have to forgive Kev

He's a little bit more advanced with the mod bug/disease. Agree with some of the other people. It depends on what is important to you. Performance vs. Looks. Performance equals ,IMO, FSTB(really easy mod that does a good deal for ride performance), RSB (Whole lotta performance bonus ride-wise). Intake or Y-pipe for speed mods. or nice set of 18's. You pick. Happy modding Oh by the way coil-overs make your kidneys bleed

Definitely FSTB (great to start with, easy install), RSB and Y-Pipe, from everything I've heard that seems to make good perfomance for the $$$$.

heh, let us know what your plans are.
shocking huh? must be contagious!

Wow...dunno where to start! I quite honestly wouldn't know how to do some of the stuff listed, or be too afraid I'd break something!!

For me I'd probably be most comfortable doing more cosmetic type changes. I don't really know what a y-pipe is (or intake or FSTB or RSB or quite a few other things)I prolly don't want to try to modify it unless I learn more about it, then....maybe! haha

I was curious to know what everyone is doing to their own max and what they consider to be the top 3 upgrades. You guys gave out some really great ideas! (Nice list FloMax! Been busy eh?)

anyways thanks for all of the ideas guys! heeey...Are there things would you NOT try to mod? heh heh

Your first mods should be intake, catback, and springs. Those items will make your car look and sound better.

I spent several months reading everyone's posts here, thinking initially how happy I was with my stock Maxima, and how there are certainly better things to do with my money than modify the car (certainly not while still under warranty, at least), and then someone with some kind of supervisory or oversight function here started this mantra, with the phrase "MODS, MODS, MODS" echoing through this forum, an I thought, maybe it would be somehting to consider, just for fun, although I wouldn't ever do any modifications...not while I was commuting back and forth to work and all.

Then someone started discussing rice, and azn's (still not sure what those are), and group purchases, and I thought, maybe I should explore this mods thing, not that I'm gonna actually do anything like that...

...and in the last two weeks I got my Stillen RSB, and then my Stillen FTSB, and was just blown away with the improvement in my already-great car!!!

Who knows what'll be next!!!

Top 3:
Zaino for that finish
RSB
FTSB
'nuff said.

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT???/

everyone is forgetting this...

numba ONE= stereo.. just see how your imagination takes you, all about creativity here.. find the part you like, and make it special
2= if you have a dark car.. tint would be an excellent way to go.

3=if you've got an automatic.. i wouldn't say go for it, but others would say the valve body recalibration. it's just a part in your transimission that pushes the fluids around. (channels them around) to make your transmission shift faster.. mine doesn't do much but make a **** load of buzzing noise. but it's only me.. other people are really really happy with theirs.

4= sound deadening would be nice if you have a stereo..

5= lowering springs. preferably adjustable springs. and struts.

HaHaaHaAHaaHAHa!!!

The 3 most important mods
Am i the only one who thinks a Front Tower brace is next-to- worthless?

I'm looking at it this way:
Lowering Springs - Give the car an aggressive stance, reduces some body-roll, provides a better centre of gravity and doesn't make the ride too stiff, but definitely more confident.

Rear-Sway Bar - Gives the car a MUCH needed stiffer rear-end, allowing the car to pivot better...providing a much more perdictable handling characteristic. Stab the brakes in a turn and the rear-end pivots much easier...without the RSB, the car just understeers.

Y-pipe - Gives that much needed oomph that the car is asking for. Gives the exhaust note a big more growl.

Tires - Get rid of those stock tires. Get lower profile if possible and DEFINITELY get something with less than 300 threadwear and ZR rated! I see people with flats and blown out tires all the time...and only a minute fraction of them have aftermarket tires.

---
Intake - Is it worth the $100+? Not really. The 2-4hp it provides at one specific rpm doesn't warrant it's importance or necessity in a car that isn't to a point (in modification) where it can use the extra air. On a N2O car, or boosting car, it'll help...otherwise.

Stereo - Screw stereos! Real enthuasists listen to the engine noise!

Clear ANYTHING - Sleeper appeal ROCKS!

Body kits - adds weight... weight is bad, ESPECIALLY on a 5g.

Red snakes - This is a Kevin Exclusive Mod (KEM)... none shall copy him.

automatics - :Bash: Get rid of it!

What about a new chip?
That would give you the most bang for your buck imo.
