key fob buttons worn down with age?
key fob buttons worn down with age?
I am having a difficult time trying to get my keyfob to work. I have to really press down on the buttons and only after pressing on them for a few seconds the car will react to the button. My first thought was that the battery was on its way out, but another fellow maxima owner thinks the FOB is actually worn. He says that the buttons are supposed to "click" when you push on them...mine clearly do not. IS this a common issue?
I’m not trying to be an a$$ here, but lets use a little common sense. It is essentially a moving part, moving parts wear out. I do not know if I would say it is common, but it does happen. Look on eBay for "Maxima Key FOB" there are a butt load of them. Pay pal me $25 and I will send you one of mine that I don’t use because I have remote starter and an alarm.
I am asking if this a common thing with 5th gens, because with previous cars, this never happnened...not after years of use. So I wanted to see if I had a faulty remote, or if it could be cured with just replacing the batteries. I am not sure why many of you love to flame so much for. People hate seeing posts. Not too sure why. I thought that was the point of a forum?
btw, I'll input my 2 cents in here...
so your key fob is getting weak? alright well, does it matter whether or not its a common issue? i mean, you're gonna end up replacing it (or doing something about it) right? whether its, checking the battery, swapping fobs with a local, etc etc? my point being, you don't have to consult with the org, whether or not this is a common issue...it won't make a difference...i'm sure your old enough to know this...and go out and do some self inquiry on this subject...(i.e. doing the above)

Living in Canada, we get raped on duties, exchange rates and shipping fees when ordering from ebay. I would prefer to try and fix the fob first, and consult with the .org to see if there is a common fix.
I am glad that for many of you, you simply throw out what you have, and blindly order from ebay before attempting to fix it. I was hoping there would have been more intuitive posts other than before throwing the fob out. Had there not been any common fixes posted here, them of course I would replace the battery, and if that didn’t fix things then get a new FOB.
ibtl.......

edit: as stated above, check the battery. If that doesnt solve the poblem, then yes, you may have a faulty fob. The one that came with my last car had the samme problem. New battery and all, I had to Dig into the mother to get it to wok.
