03 SE Question

Has ne1 noticed that their 03 Maxima burns oil at an exaggerated rate? I have owned several Nissans over the years. None have burned oil the way my Max has. With the other Nissans they burn little or no oil between my 3k oil changes. The Max appears to burn a quart every 1.5K. I am using Mobil 1 10/30. Any thoughts?

I have'nt noticed anything on my car. I had a bad oil pan which I replaced a few months ago and I was loosing oil for obvioius reasons, but since I put the new one on the oil level stays almost the same between oil changes. I drops a little, but not anything near a whole quart. I currently have 85000 miles plus on the car. How many miles do you have on you car now? I think it is common for most cars to burn a little when the engine has high miles.

At 40k you should'nt be burning that much oil. Did you check for leaks etc like any oil spots where you were parked overnight. I don't know if this has any revelance to the topic, but Nissan recalled a bunch a Altimas and Sentras earlier this year for the excessive oil comsumption and those were never cars than ours some only a few months old. The were manufactured between certain dates. Other than leaks I don't know what else to recommend other than making sure you check your oil level frequently just in case. Anyone else with any helpful info please chime in.

they tried to blame the valve cover gaskets on yours too? They're reaching! Can I put $20 on the rings?

i burn 1 to 1.4 quarts per 3k mi change intervals. haven't paid attention to the rate at which it burns, will check oil at 1500 mile mark for this last change. mobile 1 synthetic 5-30, about 30K on car

03 SE with 26K and no oil consumption issues. Maybe you guys didn't break your engines in properly.
