Like I said in Trexmex's thread....

"Well even though I'm stayin with my 2K I'm still diing of curiousity about the 2003, the 2002 in my opinion except for the 6 speed and 240 pony engine is alot worst looking than the 2000/2001 I mean all the cars think there cool cause they make STOCK altezzas (Lexus IS300/RX300, New Passat, and now Maxima) man I saw an IS300 with red lights I guess someone made or bought, just a few months ago rice boys where buying white altezza style lights now there gonna be buying red lights JEEZ the world is mad"

So thats my opinion, the grill looks too damn big, the altezzas are ****ing me off, and basicly I dont like it, I think if Nissan redesigned the head lights to bronze and got new paint all would be well :-)

First off, the 02' Max is ugly. Second, the tailights are not Altezzas, they are ugly *** nissan wannabes. If you want clear tailights, at least the Altezzas have a chrome backing, instead of the matte silver on the 02' Max. Nissan got it right on the Altima, which looks nice, the Maxima looks crappy. The grill is huge, and the logo looks ugly. The car isnt lower, it just has the AE body kit on it, which didnt look very good on the AE either. The Stillen kit looks much better, either that or the car needs to be lowered to appreciate the kit. The 260 HP is nice, the six speed is nicer, but $30,000+ sucks!

I agree, I like my 2k SE tailights better. The 2k+2 isnt that bad though.

Does anyone have a picture of the new tails? I'd like to see what everyone is talking about.

Thanks. It's not a radical change, so everyone seeing one ahead will still know it's a 5th gen Maxima.

Sanity at last

I was worried about the enthusiasm for it. Atrocious looking car. Maybe if no-one buys it, they'll redesign it.

When the 2000 Maxima came out I thought it was ugly; the oversized grill and the funky tail. Eventually as I see it more and more often on the street, I began to like the design. I think it'll be the same case with the 2k2. Styling is one thing, but the 260HP heart of this Max is the main selling point.

I think thats the way it will go. Just like the 5th gen the 2k2 will grow on ya. And once you see one lowered with 19's, stillen kit and hid youll be "damn" looks awesome. And those sport seats on the se will be nice

I am confused here. You said that the 2002 Maxima has "matte silver" backing? From what I could tell in the picture on the Nissan web site it doesn't look "matte" at all. Although, the backing looks a little darker than pure chrome..but it might be the angle the pic was taken from.

2002 Maxima

Once this thing comes out and runs a 6.5 and under 0-60 Stock, Imagine the possibilities after a couple Mods, I can't wait.... That 2000 Trans Am, it ain't gonna be such an easy race anymore. Especially after a little NOS.

are you excitable?

I am looking forward to seeing the Altima and Maxima. However, I don't like the big grill on the Max. As well, the wheel-well gap is big. Need to look more aggressive IMO. One month from now perhaps we will know more.

Nissan was able to take the 5th gen into the next realm of oogliness...i thought they were gonna design the car with more aggressive cues...just like when they redesigned the 4th gens starting from 1997 model...going from a 'happy' face maxima to more 'mad' faced.
but then, this 2002....oh....boy....the grill gets bigger nissan logo...(we all know this is already a nissan maxima...what gives?), the tail lights are OK, but not as nice as the 2K SE lights, 6 speed option is great, but on the other side, you'd have to get a SE model to enjoy(no more manual tranny available for GXEs...THANKS NISSAN!!! ),
and the car looks even higher to me now than ever before!!!
