Resistor Removal

I am currently installing an Injen WAI (as Irish so kindly put it ) on a 2001 Maxima, and just took out my intake...

Im at the throttle body now and just wanted to know if there was a restrictor that is removable in or around the throttle body....I read somewhere on max.org that there is a Restrictor plate that is removable, but I can no longer find the thread

Thanks for your quick reply,

Justin

NO there isn't. Unless you know what you are doing don't disturb anything on the throttle body.

Short answer... No.

Long answer... No.

If your talking about the internal IAT sensor, when you put a 5th gen MAF sensor into a 5.5 gen that needs swapped into the new 5th gen MAF.

YES there is. it is the TB restrictor plate, its between the TB and manifold. if u take off the 4 scews that hold the TB to manifold ull see a thin black plate that partly goes inside of the manifold, i removed mine will no bad effects. u can see it obstructs air flow by maybe a mm, honestly there is no difference, but looks somewhat piontless.

It's there to increase the velocity at idle to better atomize the charge. I'd leave it alone.

Several people have removed the plate inside the TB - nobody has seen any gains from it. Most say it didn't really change anything. A few people had power loss.

My vote: don't mess with it. Nissan put it there for a reason, and it wasn't to "restrict" power......

iirc there is a 3-5mm difference between the manifold opening and the the size of this plate. i removed mine and did not notice a gain or loss. i did however put 197 in my N/A 2k1 auto with a fuel pump that would not hold pressure past 6k so the plate being removed was certainly not hurting anything.

As an engineer i can tell you that if a part is there, it is there for a reason. In this case the "restrictor plate" is most likely just a device to induce turbulence in the intake air flow. Being only a mm restriction its not due to pressure effects and wouldnt be a flow controler. It is there, IMO, to break the fluid boundry layer and induce turbulence and further atomize the fuel. there is no negative effect to keeping it in or taking it out unless you are runnning rich, highly rich. It doesnt hurt to keep it and it takes valuable time to remove it. LEAVE IT.

and yes nissan probably could have spared the expense on this one
