Performace clutch

I wanna hear your opinions and reviews on some of the performance cltuches out there or the 02-03 max.

Post up what you got and how you like it and etc.

Let me know what out there for performace clutches cause i didnt find much for the 02-03 .

I had a ACT stage 1 on my 96 maxima and i loved it, even tho the pedal was alittle stiff.

I noticed and read a few ppl have spec but im not fimiliar with the brand and how reliable it is .

unless you are running serious power (FI), the best clutch is OEM. Better driveablility, and has good enough grip for Maximas under 300whp imo. I autocross (very hard on the clutch) and drive in alot of stop and go...hard on the clutch. OEM ftw...

I would just go OEM, and get a lightened flywheel while you're at it.

dude...wtf are you doing that your clutches only last 5K miles????? mine is still the original going strong at 110K

if you're that hard on a clutch, maybe you should start looking into getting an automatic

well thats when i was when i was younger and alot stupider, but ya my 96 had about 4 clutches within about 50k...

I dont beat on my car that much but there was a 330ci i was having fun with on the highway today and i noticed it slipped when i shifted to 3rd, then on my way home i did a 1st to 2nd shift tocheck and there was some very noticable slipage, no tire chirping at all.....

Im gona take it easy for the next few hundred miles and hope it maybe it will get alil better???

I think your prolly right with going with a stock one , i found a ACT kit for about 500 ,and other kits are around the same price range, more than im looking to spend on a clutch

a few things to think about:
1. is your clutch pedal adjusted correctly so it is completely disengaging the clutch when pressed?
2. are you "riding" the clutch without noticing? I sometimes find myself doing that when cruising...using the clutch as a "dead pedal" and applying light pressure until i catch myself.

The onlyreason I ask is that even if you were doing dead-drops all over the place, that should not cause a clutch to go bad so quickly. It seems that one of the two above cases is likely true. Just some food for thought.

As far as I know OEM clutch would be your best bet. Don't have anything to prove my point, but I've been doing a small research about available clutched a few months ago and I came to conclusion that, if you are N/A, OEM clutch will be just fine...

Irish, just curious, are you riding the clutch in the corners when you auto-x? From my experience auto-x is not hard on the clutch at all...

I feather it occasionally. to help modulate my front end grip....but no, small courses are usually not hard on the clutch. If you're running in a course requiring a 1-2-1 or 3-2-3 shifting because of the speed of the course, though, it can be hard on a clutch IMO.

true, such shifts can be hard on the clutch. Thanks god local SCCA branches design courses in such a way that they don't require 2-1 downshifting. Well, maybe it's because I participated in only three events so far.

The 350Z clutch will work with the 3.5 liter Maxima. A flywheel for a 350Z won't work without modification. Fidanza makes a flywheel for our cars. It's a very nice piece. If you do go aftermarket clutch then just search for a 350Z clutch.

Irish is right about the stock clutch being strong. If you're planning all the boltons and drag radials for the strip you might consider a stage 1 or 2. Something with a bit more clamping force and a kevlar solid disk. If not then I'd just do the Fidanza 15 pound flywheel.

I wouldn't do a "sprung" clutch disk with the stock dual mass flywheel. I got a lot of chatter from that setup. When I went to the Fidanza the chatter went away.

You will be fine with OEM clutch, I have full bolt ons and a 75 shot of nitrous on my OEM 02 clutch with 80,000 miles and to me that says something about our clutches. 02-03 clutch =

The pedal can be adjusted for travel and height. If it's out of adjustment the clutch may not be fully disengaging which will cause it to fail sooner. The clutch itself has no adjustment but the pedal has to be right. There are several threads on how to do it.
