Motor and Transmission mounts

Alright, i have been searching for info on this and havent found much. What is a good way to test your motor and transmission mounts? I think mine may be going. When I am driving down the road and switch from zero throttle to acceleration or vica versa the gear shift moves about 15mm, or so it seems, its a lot. im wondering if this is my transmission mount and I am hoping that diagnosing this may solve other problems that i cant figure out. (nor can nissan but that is from a complete lack of effort.) anyway im trying to find a good way to diagnose this and would very much appreciate any information or help anyone can provide.

P.S. what is the standard lifetime for a mount?

This might sound weird but all i did was jack up my car and move the engine back and forth... if you hear metal to metal contact then your engine mount(s) might be bad. Or check for anything else hitting before you blame it on the mounts. They told me atthe dealer that an average mount should last 40 to 50,000 miles on normal driving conditions.
Mine only lasted me 15,000

40-50K miles for engine mounts? What the hell where they smokin? Engine mounts should last the life of the car.

yeah i am at 108k and am just starting to suspect them, skeptically. 40-50, BS. Plus that puts them in waranty range IIRC.

Anyone else?

I want to change mine regardless. I have 57k on my 02 6-spd, and the engine jerks way too much. I'm going to be ordering the ES MMs soon.

A simple visual inspection of the mounts will tell you if hey are torn or not. As far as the shifter movement, there should be some play I cannot speak as to whether or note 15mm is excessive.

I have had solid mounts in other cars that I have owned. The difference it made was noticable, specifically at start up. There was still some play in the shifter even though I had the solid mounts.

the play is not the question, the shifter is tight as hell with almost zero play. its the transition from throttleing to zero throttleing that causes the movement which makes me think the whole trans is moving that much, and witht the short shifter that would translate to 20-25mm on a standard shifter, i think that is too much, maybe i am just over cautious.
