Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but that code is for a misfire in cylinder #1. Are your coils the original coils? If so, it's most likely you'll need to replace coil #1.
How many miles do you have? Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to do the plugs while you're at it.
Price depends on if you're doing it yourself. The coil can range in the upper 60's to over 80 bucks a piece, depending on where you get it from. And to replace the coil is fairly easy, but you need to stretch your back first. Advanced auto parts has the plugs for 10 bucks a piece.

Mints is correct.
p1320= Primary ignition system fault... On a 2000 Maxima that means you need a coil. p0301 means misfire cylinder #1.
I'm guessing your car was running pretty poorly for these codes to pop up.
Replace your cylinder #1 coil, that's probably all you need. (depending on miles and condition of plugs) You will probably need to replace the other ones eventually.

How many miles do you have on the car and are they on the original ignition coils?
I had to replace all the 6 on my max at 60K, it started just like yours one misfire here and there, then the P030x and then becomes frequent.
My suggestion is if you are on the original coils, go ahead and replace all of them with the 2K1 coils (dont forget to replace the plugs too). The 2K1 coils are running strong on my max, with 115K on the odometer.

that is definately coils. i had the same problems. to double check you can switch the coil on #1 to #3 and see if the code changes to p0303, you need to erase the p0301 first. I had this happen too. i replaced the one and bought a front and rear coil on ebay, or here, i cant remember, just to have around if another one goes. its been a year and a half though and still strong on the other 5, save the money and just replace what is broken when it breaks.
P.S. dont go to the dealership, they charge like .5 hours in labor, and wont replace just one without a fight, and the coils are $80 each. do it yourself, if you know how to change your oil, dont worry, its even easier to change a coil, if not find a friend who is mechanically aware.

Hey Guys ,
Thans for all the feed back! Ok so If I change the the coil for cylinder #1 ( I should pay around 80 bucks for the coil right? ) ALso, you guys say that I should change the plug, do you mean the spark plug for cylinder #1? I guess I can get a spark plug in autozone for like 10 bucks right? How much do u think a mechanic should charge me to change one coil and one spark plug?
The car has 88K miles on it. THANKS GUYS

I agree you should buy the coils @ the dealership.
IMO, If you decide to do the plugs, you should replace them in sets.
The coil is very simple to change on the #1 coil. IIRC (double check this first, thinking off the top of my head) the #1 cylinder is on the bank closest to the front bumper and the closest one to the accessory belts. Simply remove the plastic cover (10 mm or allen head bolts, I can't remember) then remove the coil (IIRC, one harness and 2-10 mm bolts)
The whole job should take 5 minutes. A shop probably won't do it for less than an hour labor. $75-$100

Cylinder #1 is on the firewall side closest to the belts, there's one 10mm bolt holding her down. Cylinders 1,3,5 are on the firewall side, 2,4,6 are by the radiator. If you've never taken the coil out, don't get uptight, it'll take a little time, but it's not hard for sure. When it comes to coils, buy OEM!!
Plugs, yes spark plugs, and @ 88K, it wouldn't be a bad idea to do them all. Any parts store is fine, they're NGK plugs, the ones you get from your dealership have Nissan boxes, but it's the same part made by NGK. As long as you get the stock plugs, which are platinum, you're fine. Advanced Auto has them for 10 bucks each, if they're cheaper at the dealership, get it from them. And the last two digits on the part # -11 specifies the gap, which is 1.1mm, approx. .044". So, unless you get a different part # plug, it'll be pregapped.
Oh, and to have the dealership change out just the one coil, you're looking at roughly 200 bucks.

Tell him to fish in the near by pond and screw him.
Dave B: 1-888-254-6060 (South Point Nissan) -- call him and get the 2K1 coils. It should cost around 65*6 = $400 and new plugs 6*11 = $66. So you are looking at $500 for the parts.
You can replace them on your own, there are quite a few folks on this forum who are experts on replacing coils, even could find you the URL with pictures.
Save the $500 (also you are not sure your mechanic got the right coils or not, that anxiety can be avoided) for something that is going to fail in the near future!!!

dude.. please please please dont pay him 1000 bucks.... tell him to pound sand... go buy ONE coil from any nissan dealer around you it wont be more then 100$ ,.. you dont really need to do plugs yet.. nissan specs say 100K (i think) so your close but not quite there.. that labor is crazy.. i bet you you can find someone on here in your area that would put it in there for you if you gave them 25 bucks and a 12 pack or something.. or fill their gas tank.. i know i would if i were close its honestly a 3 minute job for one coil...especially if hes " your mecahnic "

IMO, I would do the plugs and that one coil. Advanced auto has the plugs for 9.99 and O'Reilly has them for about the same price I believe. Or your best bet would be to call Dave B, and get the 6 plugs for I believe 9 bucks each (between 8-9), and the coil for the high 60's. Worse case would be 140shipped. If you're changing out a coil that isn't bad, you will not feel any difference. It's a waste of cash, unless you enjoy doing so. Anyhow, like mist says, do NOT pay your mechanic a 1000 bucks. Find someone in your area to help you do it for 25-50 bucks. Heck, if I were closer, I'd give you a hand.

Here's the link to changing plugs, and the coils need to come off before the plugs so ... enjoy .. http://www.picshed.com/tanman/
However, I would recommend changing all 6 plugs, instead of just one. The coil you can just change the bad one, but I wouldn't change just one plug. I mean at 88K, why not change them all? Once you pull one plug out, I'm sure you'll think twice about not replacing them all.
Dave B works for South Point Nissan in TX, and his number is 888 254 6060. You'll need access to a fax machine, for a pre-auth form you need to fax back to him.
