humming sound from right rear
ok, im going to cram as much information as possible into this to describe my problem. Out of nowhere, i started getting a humming noise from the right rear of my car. It started off low, and then got progressively worse over about 2-3 days. It starts at around 20mph, and tapers off at around 70-80. Something interesting i noticed today is when i bank the car hard to the left, or make a long left turn, the sound stops until i go straight again. It has nothing whatsoever to do with the tire or wheel because i have moved the tire to the other side of the car, have tried running with the spare in the right rear spot, and have gotten my tire balanced. The car is a 2003 GLE 4SPD Auto, with 37k miles on it. All original suspension. Any ideas what the problem may be? Thanks in advance.

Same thing happened with mine last week; culprit was the wheel bearing. If this is your problem, you'll need to replace it ASAP or you'll be replacing the hub also (an extra $167 OEM part) with it which was my case. Then again, my problem was in the front so you may not have this part in the rear; not sure. I rode on mine while bad longer than you have, and it got bad enough that I could push in on the top of the tire and see slight movement of the tire and wheel inwards.
Hope this helps.

Not under warranty here either and extra funds aren't exactly overflowing. I replaced mine in the driveway.
Got the bearing from NAPA for about $50, pulled the housing and had a local machine shop press out bearing to realize that I needed that new outter hub. Got the part as 1 unit (bearing housing / bearing / outter hub) from the machine shop and took about 15 minutes to put back together. No special tools required.
Ended up having about $265.00 in it after parts and machine labor.
Don't know if this will help, but mine started out as a tick tick tick tick making me think that there was a nail in the tire or a big rock stuck in the thread. Then it started humming, followed by the noticable "play". This is when I pulled the wheel to inspect to find the nut to be very loose. Visual inspection didn't show any problems with the bearings, so I was going to re-pack / grease the bearings. When I went to do this, bearings started falling out into my hand ,
