Thermostat Issues...Please Help

I got a check engine light recently and it's P1126 - Thermostat Function

I got the part for $19.99 from AutoZone and it looks like this (this is from 4th gen forums but I think it's the same one)

Notice the triangular shape with holes for 3 bolts.

I brought my car to a local shop to get it put in and I just got a call from them. They said the part doesn't fit and that the thermostat on my 2000 has only 2 bolts and a bleeder on the outside. I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to things like this so I wanted to know if anybody knows what the problem is or why there is this confusion?

I called several stores and the Nissan dealership. Every place only has one thermostat for the 2000 Maxima and they all said the picture shows the same triangular shape with 3 bolts. The shop owner said he had two local shops deliver him the thermostat in their computers for my car and they were all the same as the one I have, but they insist it's the wrong one and that it will not fit in my car.

Thanks guys. I would really appreciate some input here.

Sorry guys I told them where it was and everything and they disagreed. They just called me and said sorry you were right...they were looking at the water control valve which apparently has a housing and looks similar to the thermostat? Anyways, it's all set. Thanks.

You're talking about the whole thermostat assembly correct? According to the manual, the pages that I do have, it's pretty much what you have pictured, and it is a 3 bolt pattern. I just went to check my 2000SE, and it's 3 bolts, not 2.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to check!

If you look at the post above yours, I explained that the confusion has been resolved, so I'm all set now, but thanks anyways

These mechanics dont need to be working on cars if they don't know where to look for the thermostat.

Hey, any time, glad they figured it out, however I would be a little hesitant in taking my car to a mechanic/shop who didn't know about our cars.

Shoulda bought my new 350z thermostat which runs at 175 degrees. Much cooler than the yielded 190 degrees. Check link in my signature for those that might be interested.
