kinesisfilm,
So are you able to pick these bulbs up at radioshack? I'm off work tomorrow and didn't want to wait for them to come in the mail. just thought i could run out and pick them up real quick.

Anyone have a how-to? I can't seem to find one online... I assume it must be somewhat easy if you guys are switching bulbs on a daily basis, just didn't want to invest the 20 bucks and realize I have no idea where to start putting them in...

I don't know I got the $4.99 ones. If you guys want to wait I am waiting for an e-mail back from them about a different design using 4 3mm LEDS with a small angle on them to fan out to hopefully stop the hotspots.

Got the e-mail back. they are just a distirbutor (sp) but will pass the word. It might be some time though. The $6.99 will be brighter and should fit we're only talking a 1/16 difference in bulbs and there was enough room.

Thanks for the welcome.

I have gotten a lot of great ideas from this forum. Probably going to take on the interior LEDs then work on new headlights and foglights. Looking forward to what I can make this car into to.

This may not be the correct place, but if i change my gauges to white, i will want to change my stereo and climate control unit to white as well.

I found the thread about the clock, but no info about the stereo and climate control. I can not search either. Anyone help?

That's pretty cool. So if you got a different color (lets say red) the original white lettering on the 2k SE gauges would glow that color? and the blue would be tinted whatever color you put in?

That would be tough to say. remember there is a blue film behind the gauges that metal maxima removed which requires more work. That's why my whites still look blue.

I just got my bulbs in the mail and installed it in about 20 minutes. I ordered 4 but behind the gauges there is 6 bulbs to be replaced 4 on top and 2 on bottom I guess because I have a 5.5 gen. Not at all a hard thing to do just a little tricky because I didnt unplug anything and worked in some weird angles.

I thought the 5th gen guages had a blue filter thus not changing much with a different colored bulb.?.? Is this done primarily for brightness?

Looks pretty good though. I will definitely look into putting these in my all clear guages. I've taken that damn cluster out so many times I could probably do this within 10 minutes.

Is it possible for you to see it fits into the ac/temp control?

Post # 31 explains how to take out the cluster. After that you just take out the old bulbs and put in new ones.

How does THIS explain how to take out the cluster?

EDIT***

Okay, so on a whim I checked post #31 in the how-to section. This is where it explains removing the guage cluster.

Hey Slow, you're the only one I've seen do this with a 5.5 gen, which obviously the clusters look different from a 5 gen, what do you think of the outcome? and 6 bulbs needed?

This thread kinda died out huh?

I just installed the 4.99 ones in and they look pretty kool.

More light is needed for the RPM and MPH gauges. They'll do for now, but i need more light in there. Has anyone tried the 6.99 LEDs yet?

The temp and fuel gauges look sick. I'm pretty impressed overall.

Cliff notes on how-to...

1. Remove 2 screws on the top/inside of the dash.

2. Remove 5 screws (remember I have a 2k GLE) from under the steering wheel.

3. The front cover will come out now with some pressure. Disconnect 4 wire harnesses (2 on each side) for the TCS, Side mirror control, and the dimming switch. There is a hose on the right side too.

4. There are 3 more screws you need to take out (lower right/left, and middle top) and 3 more wiring harnesses behind the gauges and you're al set.

The hard part was getting the harnesses out. I didn't have too much slack.

I didn't disconnect the battery, but obviously didn't have the key in the ignition.

Good luck!

another angle of my cluster. 5.5gen 6mt
i see 4 black all around and 3 brown on top. they seem to be the same size.

picture of the bulbs taken out. only used for size comparison. first is the actual bulb w.out the base. 3 and 4 are the brown and black bulbs. the amber is a corner bulb only used to really understand the size of the gauge bulb.

I replaced 4 bulbs... the back of my gauges look completely different than the 2k2... I have about 10 bulbs on the back of mine and just replaced the temp, fuel, rpm and mph

Anyone have pics of how this looks on a 5.5 gen?

I know the displays are a bit different.

no but oddly enough, my speedometer gauge bulbs went last nite, so i'm forced to buy new ones. seeing as the dealer charges $15 per bulb (or something crazy like that), it's only ideal that i purchase these, so i'll be ordering them today.

I think these bulbs will fit the 2 bulbs in the top of climate control also and the replacement bulb for the ignition key ring will fit the bulb in the front of the climate control that lights up at the bottom of it.
