Trailer hitch?

Anyone have a trailer hitch on their maxima? If so do you have any pics of the car from the rear? What brand do you have? thanks.

Relax... I'm just going to use it to carry a bicycle on a hitch-mount rack.

Anyone have a hitch on their maxima?

I beg to differ! My other car is a p.o.s. '01 Dodge Stratus 4 Cylinder and I've been towing a 900lb jet ski for almost 4 yrs now with absolutly NO issues at all. I just put on a trans cooler, and thats it. Runs and stops like a charm.

ALL cars can tow. You just have to know the limit.

I had a hitch on my 86 maxima wagon for towing a (very) small sailboat - I think a hitch for just a bike would be fine as they are only a few hundred pounds (think about having some heavy people in your car - they can add up to be even heavier than a bike...)

sorry though, no hitch on my 03 SE - but I'm sure you can go to any auto store to get some advice on which brand is better than others...

I have not seen any pictures, but go with a simple Draw-Tite Class 1 hitch. You will only see the small square opening for the bar.

well thats a POS stratus that you dont care about.
whats the tow rating for a maxima?

for an 07 (which has a larger engine and better tranny) - Maximum Towing Capacity: 1000.00 lbs.

1000lb capacity for Maxima or Class 1

My stratus has a towing capacity of a 1000 and it has a small motor and crappier tranny. It's got over 97K miles, about 60k of towing.

Also, I'm not saying you can tow a 32" camper behind it. You could tow a jet ski or anything under a 1000 with no problems at all.

99 Seadoo + trailer = 800lbs.

I wouldn't tow anything with my Max, just stating that you can.

Towing

I used to tow a small flat bed trailer and Honda 250 four wheeler
with my 1.6 liter VW Scirocco, then later, a 2.0L Eagle Talon.
The trailer and ATV weighed under 1000lb. I never had a problem
with either car. Both cars were stick shifts, however.
I got a hitch for them both from JC Whitney.

I think that is correct too... I've seen MUCH smaller cars towing various things with no problems, and I honestly doubt a jap V6 engine wouldnt be able to tow. That doesnt sound right.

again...just cause you CAN doesnt mean you SHOULD

and its not just about the engine...read the rest of the thread (tranny, brakes, etc). its more that being able to pull the trailer, its also about not getting pushed by the trailer when slowing down and going down hill

here's what mine looks like. Sorry it's huge. I carry my bike around town on the kind that mounts on the trunk. You might consider one of those.
