I just had new axles put in last Feb.
So today when I was putting in my new rotors and Hawk pads, I noticed the CV boots are alrady starting to crack.....
What can I put on them to stop it from getting worse?????

Spray some silicone or WD40 on them so they don't dry out that bad.

While silicone spray may help for a little bit, knowing how those boots gets exposed to the elements, that coating will be gone in no time.

What you may want to find out is why did they crack?
Do you drive hard?

silicone wont work...its water based and will just wash away. you need something oil based to repel water (WD-40)

I was thinking more along the lines of crappy mfg of the boots.
But yes I do get on it most of the time I drive it

So......you get a new boot, rubber don't last forever in extreme weather and temp change constantly.

no it'll protect it and keep its elasticity longer instead of getting 'dried out'

i think you should apply WD-40....i was on the s2000 forums reading up on this guy....doing routine maintenance on his s2k....aside from oil changes, sparks, and coolant...he also mentioned lubing cv boots and steering rack boots....he said it helps prevent them from drying out...especially the harsh conditions he comes from (iirc, Arizona)

How about some axle grease OUTSIDE of the boot? I think that stuff is definitely thicker than WD40 and it would last longer in those conditions.... since I have it all over my control arm right now.

Extreme weather? I live in NJ not Alaska and they are only eight months old, i would say that is a little pre-mature for them to be cracking...

Definitely do NOT use axle grease. It will collect dirt, debris, etc, which can accelerate the deterioration of the CV boots.

WD-40 will work just fine and won't degrade the cv boots. We used it on Dirt Bikes top to bottom (had to buy it by the gallon...). We sprayed _everything_ once, then we learned to spray everything except the grips and the seat.
