Steering wheel tight

With the onset of winter, my steering wheel is stiff and I have siphoned off from the reserviour and replaced it with fresh ATF. It seems to not make a difference -- can one of you pitch in if you have faced this problem before.

Mine is a 2K max with 115K miles on it!!!

1) check PS reservior level
2) raise front end and do lock of steering wheel and check for leakage (do not exceed 5 sec in lock condition)
3) check for leaks from steering rack

There is a steering rack bolt adjuster. You can adjust that but if you don't have much experience with it i suggest not tempering with it. Loosen it too much and it will leak. It's half way in the middle of the rack facing the rear of the vehicle. I t's a bigger size. Around a 24 or so. And you need to use a wrench But yes it can be done.

Looks like my PS pump is shot (slow death) and needs replacement. How many of the forumers have actually had to replace them and at what mileage?
