Gas overflow
Gas overflow
Every time I fill up the tank the gas flows over and out and then I have to wipe the car, my hands, sometimes my shoes...
What's up with that? Is that normal on these cars?
I don't even click the gun one or two more times after it's full but it still happens.

I've tried it on two different gas stations, both on which I had previously filled my other cars up many times before. I don't have problems on my other cars so I don't think it's the gas station.
Any other suggestions?

Gas overflowed on the last refill. Told the station manager to check the pump I used. Just for my reference I should have check to inspection sticker. The pumps at most of the stations I go to have up to date inspections. The big mistake I made was that I pulled the pump out and got slpashed with gas. I should have left it in and let it drain.
I had been going to the same station for a little over a year in the town I go to school at... but the past two times that I got gas there, different pumps, overflowed on me. I started going to another gas station and havn't had a problem. The guy told me to not stick the nozzle so far in the tank, so I've been doing that and it seems to help.
I've had that same issue at two gas stations that I've went to. If I wait like five or ten seconds after the gas pump stops the first time, it usually gives the gas enough time to settle, (think when you pour a drink really fast - it starts to foam a little bit but it eventually goes down).
What irritates me more is when they don't have any towels! I've started just bringing my own...
If it helps any, both stations were Shell stations and I don't always use the same pump.

If this happens all the time you may in fact have a problem. Looking at the FSM there is a one-way fuel valve at the bottom of the filler pipe at the tank that may be sticking, or the recirculation line or the signal line from the filler neck to the tank may be pinched or obstructed. Maybe a problem with any one of those may prevent the "auto shutoff" feature of the pump nozzle from working. These are listed as possible causes of fueling and strong odor issues. You could physically check the hoses/tubes running from the filler neck to the tank for obvious damage at least. Also check all the lines from the tank to the EVAP canister and the canister itself for obvious damage. Unfortunately there are several other things in the vapor recovery system on these cars that could be the problem as well.

Be sure to clean the gas off your paint with something...not good for the finish.
