Car dies after being started...starts up okay later

So I started my car after it was resting for about 30 minutes and it started but the rpms dropped all the way down to 0 and the car shut off. I started it again, but this time the car almost dropped down again, but it suddenly recovered and didn't die. I then drive around for 30 mins to best buy and stayed at BB for about 1 hr. Go back to car, start it and it dies again. Second time ot start it, it does the same as before, revs high drops almost to 0 rpm but recovers and stays on. Any suggestions as to what the problem is? The car runs fine, no check engine light etc..

Also for some reason, when I'm revving the car to about 2500 rpm in park and let off, it's making some weird light squeeking noise that I've never experienced before.

It sounds like a possible starter problem. The same thing happened to me. I was at a gas station for two minutes. Jumped in the max, struggled to start, but started. five minutes later, i went to a grocery store. Went in came out car would not start or turn over. So a question for you. Does your lights dim dramatically or even slightly more than your used too?

You mean that the car starts everytime but quits (won't idle) or almost quits everytime? Or only sometimes? When it warms up is the idle "normal" and stable?

it is not a starter problem, it it was the starter the engine would not turn if the engine is turning the starter is ok a dying starter will cause the engine to turn slow, i think it could be a possible maf problem when my maf was going bad it did not throw any codes or your fuel injector system could need a flush. my car was doing what your is doing at the beginning of the summer and a friend of mine at pep boys got a fuel injector cleanining kit from pep boys for me. you cannot by this from any automotive store these are the kits that dealers and mechanic shops get when they are doing a major fuel injector service on your car. anyway it came with three bottles. it also required the mechanic to have some special gauges and connector lines to hook up to your engine. first bottle he hooked up through the lines and guages to the fuel injector sytem and controled how much went into it. i started up my car and watched in amazement how much black smoke came out of the exhaust then when that bottle was empty he ran a second bottle through the main intake on top of the car for about another fifteen minutes. think that cleaned the intake system heads and all. the final bottle he added to the oil and said to leave it in there to my next oil change. since that thorough cleaning my car starts with ease first time every time. think my intake and fuel injector system was to dirty even though i used premium. hope this helps.

The car will start, its just that occasionally, the first start will make it start, rev up, but just drop all the way down suddenly and die. The second start will start, rev high, drop low(but not 0rpm), and go back up and staying fine. This only happens sometimes. Also when the car warms up, the idle is perfectly smooth.

It ain't the starter. It's as if the ECM is not increasing fuel delivery for a "cold" start. Several things may cause this, but as you have no SES light on and it's seems like everything is normal when warmed up, the only thing I can suggest is to check for scundge in the TB around the throttle plate. If there's crud there, an engine running intake cleaning procedure may help. But you have to be careful. An MAF going south?......maybe, but so far you don't seem to have a problem other than this starting issue.

It sounds like its your MAF sensor going. I had the same problem a few months ago. Whatever you do, DO NOT unplug it. Once its unplugged, Nissan has to reprogram it..at least they did on my 01. My car would start fine but it would sometimes stall or the idle would drop real low and almost stall out.

You need an idle air relearn. Go to the dealer and do it the right way. Should be half to one hour.
It will fix your problem!
A starter gear solenoid not retracting could cause similar symptoms but would crank really slow. Not common on these cars.

My car did the same thing, it was my mafs. Cold start, 1st in the morn, would jump up in rpms, drop to about 800, then bog itself down and die. Replaced the MAFS a few days ago, it hasnt done it since.

its a drive by wire TB so its not driven by cable, more chances of messing it up while cleanning it. guess cause its electronic.

throttle body or idle air volume learn has to be performed.
both instances, need a dealership's assistance.
