PO650 Code

Has anyone ever had a PO650 Code (Malfunction Indicator Control Circuit)? If so what kind of issues were you having with the car at the time this happened and how did you go about fixing it. I have this code along with two others a PO455 and a P1448 with I already know how to fix, but I am not sure how to tackle the PO650.

This is an ECM fault code. Pretty heavy duty and rare. Is the car gutless? What has been done to the car recently? Those EVAP system codes, one of which is the "gross leak" one, need to be addressed if they are genuine, but with that ECM code who knows. You seem to be aware of the EVAP codes so what have you found?

P. Samson Thanks for responding. Well recently within the last few weeks the SES light came on and I went to Auto Zone the same day and had the codes pulled. For the P0455 and P1448 I am going to address this with a new gas cap, a new vent control valve and new EVAP canister. Even though I might not need the canister I am just going to replace it too. This will hopefully solve these two codes unless there is an additional leak somewhere. Now you said the P0650 is a rare issue and is ECM related? Could this possibly be the reason why the car won't accelerate above 2500 rpm's. My engine starts fine, sound fine and runs perfect, but if I try to pull away from a stop light or pass someone and let the rpm's go up to 2500, the car hesitates a little and gives a sound like a misfire of some sort and just won't let you rev past that point. On the highway if you drive faster than 70mph which at that point the rpm's are about 2500 the gas pedal suddenly has no feel to it, even if you floor it, nothing happens until the rpm's fall back. I have no idea what this is or why the car is doing this or if this one of the symptoms of a P0650 code. I bought this car new and I now have about 89,000 miles on it. No problems before this. Oh and just to rule out the MAF, I changed it with a new one I purchased from the dealership, but I am still having the same problem. I went as far as swapping one from my friends car and same result. Adding to current problems I am experiencing the SES light just dissapared and none of the codes have been addressed yet. WTF? I am not sure if the SES is working now because when I put the ignition to the "ON" position I don't see it. Normally it shoud appear with the other usual lights and then go away after you start the car or stay on if it detects a problem. If this P0650 is an ECM fault code like you mentioned, what do you recommend as a possible fix or is this something a do it yourself person like myself should let the dealership handle. I welcome any other helpful info or advice on this problem. Thanks in advance everyone and sorry about the lenghty description.

I'm sure that the ECM is (or was) in the "limp home" or "fail safe" mode. Per the FSM it can go into fail safe when there is a problem with the SES light circuit (as seen by the ECM) and another issue that has set a fault code that should put on the SES light. In your case you've got the SES light circuit problem (or maybe an ECM problem) and your EVAP codes. I would not yet get into the EVAP fix until the ECM code issue is looked at first, especially now that you've even lost the SES light test function when you turn the ignition key to "ON" prior to starting. I doubt that it is an EVAP canister problem alone. Remember there are EVAP components up in the engine compartment as well, including the control solenoid etc. I'm wondering if it could even be a red herring due to a possible ECM problem. I think in the end it would be better to get to a dealer. It may be that they will quickly swap out the ECM for a known good one. If it turns out to be the ECM I would sure try to at least get something out of Nissan even though it looks like you are out of the basic Powertrain Warranty. The car is only 3 years old and the ECM shouldn't be failing this soon. If the dealer balks and I suspect he will, you can contact Nissan direct if it comes down to that. Suggest to them that you'll be looking at Toyota Avalons next time!

Thank for the response P.Samson.. Like you suggested I think I will let the dealer handle this one. It's definitely not a clearcut problem thats easy to fix like brakes or shocks for example. I don't even have a SES light anymore which makes things harder. I will be making an appointment to take it in to the dealership. I hate taking my car to the dealership. I really perfer to fix things myself, but this time I am just gonna have to take it in. I will post results so everyone will know just in case they run into this problem in the future.

I don't think he "fixed" it. Looks like the SES bulb/ckt is blown. I wonder if you have the SES light out for few months, it will blow. Aaaarg, that would be bad!!!

Were there some pointers here on instrument cluster removal and LED replacement? Is it possible that SES bulb/LED needs replacement? Dealer will really fleece you. He most likely will
1) Hit you with new ECM
2) When that does not fix, he will hit you with new instrument cluster
3) Many many thousand dollars if you let dealer touch this.

P.S. What a stupid bump! The original problem was from 2006 :-( :-(
