window tint...
I'm thinking about having my super black 2k1 max's rear windows tinted to 5%. Is this the darkest you can go? And approximately how much should this cost? And also, which brands should I use - the use that won't fade to purplke in a few years? Thanks.

I'm very happy with their work. Had all 3 Infinitis done there. They use only metallized film. They say that dyed film turns purple.

I have mine tinted with 5% Mirror Tint all around. It's not legal in Arkansas but oh well. I've never been legal with my tint. This is the first time I have used Mirror Tint and I like it so much better, especially on my Icelandic Pearl Max. Just stands out much better. It cost me $150 cash (since it's illegal) to have it done, which is the normal run rate for all of the cars I have had tinted.
5% is the darkest you can get except for Limo tint, which would definately get you in trouble on a vehicle!

Well I had the 35% tint done and it is too light. Wish I had gone darker, but the salesman said the lighter tint is classier, plus the cops don't wonder what activity you are trying to hide in the car.
Beware, Nissan glass is softer than sh*t and my back window had cuts around 60% of it. They cut the rear film on the glass and the tinters said they rarely scratch glass.
Since my front window is now scratching, I no longer blame the tinters, it's just very cheap glass.
You might have them test a small area on the rear window to see if it will leave scratches.
I had my tinters pay for a glass polisher and he worked hard for 2 hours (@$65/hr) and remove most of the scratches.
Good luck

Just a heads up 5% tint will get you pulled over most places especally if you draw attension to your self. But i understand wanting to go dark. One other thing at night your not gonna be able to see out trust me unless you have lights shinging on your hoopty your not gonna have great visability. Just a heads up. Don't attack me
OK, i think i'm going to get all the back dyed to 5%, though I am concerned a little bit about visibility. Can anyone with 5% tell me how bad it is at night and even the day? But I really like that it would compliment my super black max so well. anyway, i called a lot of local shops and they all use metallized and are around 160-180 + tax. Does this seem reasonable?
5% is limo and I have it on all 5 of my windows and the windshield has 35%. Completely illegal in all states to have 5% on the front windows. Lowest legal tint is 20% on those windows. 5% is not hard to see out of at night. Never have to use the "night" position of the mirror.

This is my first time to go with a mirrored tint, they called it titanium tint, and I like it a lot.
I think it adds that little extra to the look of your car.

Let me phrase it like this. Ive driven several cars with 5% on every window expect the front winsheild. THe only time I could see out was when there was a car driving behind me. I could not see to park and there are some reflections from other kind of lights In my car I have 35% on the front and rear and 15% on the rear nothing on the fron winshield only ever got q'd once and the cop din't care. I can see out fine for the most part and no one can see in. 150 for tint is about ave you can get it as low as 100 as high as 200. Johnson tint is the best it comes with staight black and some silver tint and other kind of shading. Also you window is not gonna be "dyed" it's a film that goes over the window. And who ever said that the max windows are soft Ive never heard that and have no scratches in my windows or tint.
i have 20% all around, and yea, visibility at night is pretty bad.
on a road w/ poor lighting, i have to drive w/ my windows down to see around me. and im never seating comfortably on a dark road. my head is always up, and looking doofy so i can see where im going.

Ok, I caught something new on this post. You've tinted your actual WINDSHIELD? What level? What does this do for you? The whole windshield or just part of the way down? Sounds like it would be great thing for saving more heat and any wear on the dash.
5% is dark at night. The mirror tint actually is EASIER to see out of at night than the regular tint was. I too have to sometimes roll my window down to get a "comfortable feeling" when in dark area's to make sure I see everything around me. But I love it during the day! Can't see in so people don't see me staring at them!

I had my 97SE tinted at ZIEBART and if you have a AAA card (Automobile Association of America) not what you were thinking
you get a 20% discount or at least they gave this discount when mine were tinted. They charged me $200.00.
