Front defroster question
Front defroster question
Okay,
I have searched the forum for this question, no one seems to have the same problem.
2003 GLE with Auto Climate Control
Whenever I use the "MANUAL" mode, NOT "Auto" or "Econ", and I set the controls to windshield and floor, the air from my front windshield vents seems to "drift", rather than blow from the vents, even on the highest fan setting.
When I set it to "Auto" mode, I get very good air flow from the windshield vents and NO flow from the floor vents. (Which I kind of expected)
How about you other 5.x gen Max owners? Do your front windshield vents work the same way? It would be nice to get heat on the feet and the windshield, once the front defroster has done its job.
If not, any ideas on what the problem could be? I do get lots of heat, so I don't think it is a coolant level problem. My Maxima simply does not blow -- which is not always a good thing!!

you should be able get the airflow to blow through the top vents(defroster) and floor vents by continously pressing the Mode button until the air direction points in that direction.
When your using AC, the auto feature will adjust according to the way you have the temp. the colder you have the temp, I.E 60 Degrees, the AIR WILL BLOW out of the air ducts facing you, now the hotter you make the temp I.E 90 degrees the air will blow from the floor vents.
but ive never known it to blow out of defroster vents when your using auto, unless you press the defroster button.
now as far the feature blowing from the defroster vents and floor vents, thats generally how i do mine in the winter time when its cold as hell outside, (AS IT IS RIGHT NOW)

Yeah,
Sorry, I meant when my FRONT defroster switch is turned on, I get a lot of air blowing through the front windshield vents. It's when I have it just blowing to the floor and windshield vent WITHOUT the front defrost turned on, THAT'S when I don't have much air coming up from those vents.
I know the air flow is split between the two zones, it blows nicely from the floor vents, but the windshield seems to just "drift" upwards rather than have any real air pressure behind it.
Does yours do the same? If you turn the fan on in MANUAL mode?

or is it only when you have it set to blow air to the floor, you feel a little air coming from the defroster vents? <<<<IF YOUR TALKING ABOUT THAT, mine does the same thing, and i would say that is considered normal. i would guess this is more of a air ventalation type thing
When I have it set to blow to BOTH floor and windshield - combined (like in your picture, except my fan would be in manual mode) the floor has good air flow the windshield has poor airflow.
I would hope for a better balance between the two vent levels. Even my 95 Cavalier had better air flow to a combined set of vents (i.e. floor AND windshield)
Thanks,
PJ

This is not really a front defroster question, so you could have used the NEWBIE thread for this.
After searching this forum and through my experience, I'd say yes there have been a number of owners, myself included, who have had problems with the RW defroster.
It seems that this problem is caused by a number of problems; ham-fisted tinters who scratch the heating elements, poor connections in the wiring harness, broken elements caused by ham-fisted window cleaners and generally, not one of the stronger features of the Maxima's HVAC/washer/wiper/defroster components.
