Rear Fog Light (installed)

1) This one has a plastic case, so I was worried that if it was below the bumper rocks from the wheels could f-ck it up.
2) This being America, some dumba55 kid would probably steal it if it was just out in the open....
Took you long enough. You did a good job, but I still would have wired up the drivers reverse light on a switch and popped in a red bulb, like SAABs. 5th gen tails dont have much room to install anther bulb I assume.
Im about 100% sure all OEM rear fogs have a separate switch but will only come on with the front fogs. I always see Saab/Audi owners with them on. The newer Audis have 2 rear fogs, and they are pretty darn bright.

I think you're right....they have switches, but the switch is rigged to the front fog lights so you can only turn on the rears with the fronts on. In fact, the PIAA light instructions say to wire it up that way too. I just wired it into an accessory wire so it only is powered when the car is on. I didn't want to accidentally leave it on and drain the battery
Yea... neat idea, not sure about the execution. A little unsightly for my tastes. I'd take my chances getting the externally mounted light stolen.
My '02 Volvo V70 has a dedicated switch and the left-side light is in the middle of the giant V70 taillight stack. These lights really do add a lot of visibility in poor driving conditions, I've noticed that from being behind other drivers that have them, you can see at least 3 or 4 cars ahead of the last car without them at freeway speeds.

Nice job Irish, very nice indeed. You know thought about a similar setup on my car, by using a red LED bulb in the left reverse light cluster. Like you said it's hard to find the right bulb that will fit perfectly. I have all the wiring etc, from another rear fog light kit in place, but I did'nt want to put a light hanging from below my bumper like some of the older cars in Europe that have been retrofitted with rear fogs do. I was working on this during the summer and decided to put the idea on hold for a while. I think I might jump on it again since it will come in handy this winter especially on blizzard like days if I really have to drive. My only problem now is to find the right LED at the right wattage that will fit perfectly or near perfectly in the housing, then I'll have a set-up that looks stock like Audi's, volvo's, Vauxhall's and the other European brands and no one will ever know I have a rear fog installed unless I turn it on. Since you'rs is only seasonal then the set-up you have is fine. As least it serves the purpose which is what really matters.
Irish... Everyones a critic... It's functional, well thought out... and you obviously did your homework in regards to legallities. Nice job. I too run the Max to many ski resorts (NH, Ver, Maine). What most people who do not ski don't understand, is that die hard skiers and boarders go when the weather is worst to get the freshies, and you need all the visability you can get.
Great Job, and may I respectfully say you are one hot looking Max owner...
Enjoy the winter season, if it ever arrives....

I retract and apologize. Not knowing one org member form another accept what I see when you post, I looked at the babe you have pictured and assumed it was a picture of the member speaking.
Sorry dude… no offense attended. I’ll rephrase and say “who ever that picture is of… she is quite hot”…

Do you really think there are any females that would stick around the org for more than a week with all the e-leg-humping around here?

You should've went in there and edited your post. The funny thing is that you still haven't. Umm....

I know this is an old thread but a crappy-weather drive got me thinking about this exact idea. It seems I was thinking the same way as irish but then I read about irish's trials to get a rear-fog into the taillight housing to no avail. This seems like a good alternative.
I was just wondering:
1) Are you still using this setup a year later?
2) I can't seem to find it anywhere for $50 as you mentioned, may I ask where you got yours
3) How did you get the wires to the front of the car with the folding seats, don't want to fold them down and pull the wire or anything
Thanks!

(either 2.7 biturbo or 4.2 V8) it has a button that engages the rear fog lights to be 'on' or 'off'. If "on" it will act like factory foglights; be on if lights or parking lights are also on.
-Only mentioning it because you didn't follow the first rule, you build a car for you! Actually, it's a great idea. It's a functional mod, like upgrading ones braking system. Especially in snow, fog, rain...But for being an overlord why cave to the opinion of others, unles asking for their advice?
I figured this is a cheap mod....it should do what it's supposed to, and certainly can't hurt. In the winter I'm not concerned with looks....with the roof rack, winter wheels/tires on, rubber floormats in, and car pretty much dirty and salty until March. The light...eh...it looks a bit cheesy, but I sure don't give a damn

Weird how the only American car that had them was the last gen Aurora. I used to think they were just reflectors, but I saw one on the highway few months ago with them turned on.

/\/\ I've seen those on too, they are VERY visible.
irish, you out there by any chance

Untrue, I used to work for Porsche/Audi/VW. On any Audi: including S4,

1) yes, I've only used it a few times when it's foggy or heavy rain, but winter is here again
I'm going to put this setup (with a Hella rear fog) on my Jeep as well, just because....2) honestly, I really don't remember. Online someplace is the best I can tell you
3) it's run alongside the factory wiring down under the bottom of the rear seat and then along the rocker panels up to the front...
i personally wouldve gotten this: http://www.lshlights.us/AMAZING/itemMatrix.asp?CartId={8CC0623D-AEVERESTFAF-4752-A452-98C079695CF7}&GroupCode=BR%2D48%2DPhoenix&eq=&Matr ixType=1

its $50, and you just plug it into your cig outlet
that way u can only use it when necessary
