Installed Y Pipe, feel a big difference
#1
I was reading an earlier thread about people not feeling a difference with their y pipes, but man I sure do! I especially feel the difference in the mid range, like when I am accelerating on the freeway. It sounds a little "throatier" now too. Best of all, I am now getting better gas milage. When I cruise at 80mph my RPM's were at 3000 before the mod. Now at 80 the rpms are at 2800. The y-pipe will pay for itself in gas in the long run. If you are hesitant about this mod, DO IT!

I've had my Y on for about 3 days. The first few days I had it on it was 80-90 outside with very high humidity. A cold front came in last night reducing humidity and the temp to about 46-50 ( I live in Canada). Holy s**t my car is way way faster than ever before. The cool air and almost no humidity made my car crazy fast. I have a stillen high flow so it was getting cool air for sure last night.

Me too!!! i just got my y-pipe installed this morning... and man i feel a huge difference. i wasnt really paying attention to the rpm, instead i was enjoying the louder sound my car. before the y-pipe i had a dtm muffler on which made a nice deep sound... but now, my car sounds like one of those american v-8s. i cant imagine how it will sound like with the new greddy catback...I just ordered that today. *grin* anyways, this mod is definetely awesome. if you dont have a y-pipe, it should be your next mod. aiite, peace out...

I was able to do this in a driveway with the help of my friend in about 3.5 hours. It's probably best to use ramps instead of jacks and jack stands. Make sure that you have deep sockets handy. Be prepared to get your hands all cut up as well. My car is an auto BTW.

I paid $60.00CDN = $40.00US cash and it took about 45mins-1hr to do at Midas. I watched over the work the whole time and he did it perfectly from the instructions I had from maximadriver.com. Not all Midas will do it I just found the owner/dealer of this one use to work for Nissan back in the day so he was really cool about it.

BTW, what is this bees in a can sound that yall talk about. I don't hear anything except a slightly lower rumble from by engine and exhaust. My middle hanger that connects to the rubber hanger is cut off BTW. I think it sounds great. my next mod is going to be to get a straight pipe for the main cat and possibly for the front cali pre cat.

Man I gotta get me one of those gear ratio changing Y-Pipes, LOL there is no way the ypipe will change your rpm at cruise!!!! RPM at 60 is RPM at 60 I dont care what you've done to your exaust. That statement is like saying your car accelerates faster with the overdrive off!!!!HA HA HA.....I know there is a performance diff with the ypipe but it doesnt change RPM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Damn I wish I was ONLY turning 2800-3000 rpms at 80! I think mine is closer to 4000 rpms at 80.

I swear that my RPM's are lower at 80, I've always watched it when I cruise. Honest!! Besides, what would lying do for me?? Hey all you auto se's out there, what does your car turn at EXACTLY 80mph???
