Difficult Nav Swap?

How difficult would this be to install in my 2001 AE Maxima

Nav from an I30?

Is it worth a shot?

Someone here tried this and ended up giving up after a while. I think it was on an 02/03 car though. If you search you may find the thread. I remember reading it but it was a long time ago.

On the 02/03 cars the nav system controls the climate control system too. That may have been part of the problem.

When it comes to this subject I'm just repeating what I've read here so check it out for yourself. I could be wrong.

I think i remember that thread also, i thought i might have better luck since an I30 Matches an 01 better than an 02-03. If anyone has any info on this before this auction is over i would REALLY appreciate it because not only would navi be extremely cool, but it also increases the value of the car tremendously.

If you really want to try the project then go for it. As long as you don't mess up the parts you could always put them back up on e-bay. If you wait till the spring you'd probably get even more for it. Those sort of items don't sell as well this time of year so this is the perfect time to buy it.

Don't expect it to add too much value to your vehicle. When it comes to trade in those things don't add that much value. What value they do add is less and less as the car gets older. I'm not saying it wouldn't be really cool but don't look at it like an investment. Unless, of course, you have to sell the idea to your spouce.

hehe selling the idea was the main concern, since when has any org member cared about the practicality of a mod The only problem i see right off is the absence of the giant hole in my dash where the pop up screen would normally sit, im thinking i would probably need the whole dash from an I30?

See here is an I30 Dash:

and here is the max dash:

so if anybody has any ideas for that part of the problem, Im all ears.

It would probably be easier to wait and try to find a maxima navigation, does anyone know if you already have the automatic climate control, will it be plug and play with the navigation climate controls/wires?

It is not possible to add OEM nav to a car that does not have it. And if it is possible, it is not worth the trouble. Just go aftermarket, you will get better quality for lesser price.

Whoa... hmm I have a few (may be stupid) questions.

1) Was the I30s nav touch-screen?
2) Where would you put the screen in the Maxi?
3) What about your tape deck & CD player?

djfrestyl was right when he said you should go aftermarket:

Start with one of these.
http://www.courtesyparts.com/Merchan...de=68750-VENTC

You absolutely get better quality for less money. I have factory nav in my '02 GLE and while I do like the clean integration, when I had my '98 240 in 2002 I put DVD based navigation (@ $2,400 for the screen & $2,200 for the nav deck [thank goodness good nav is FAR cheaper now]) in it, and the screen was larger, and nav features -far- better (I'm saying this since they were both designed around the same time) That said, the '02 Nissan nav is excellent compared to some other products that were out (and still out) at the same time, remotes and buttons are a inefficient way to use a map compared to a touchscreen.

Hey good luck anyway, I'll definitely give a vote for any type of navigation system. (Except those cheesy ones suctioned to your windshield with the tacky wires running down your dash. )

These are the exact reasons it is not feasible. The shape of the dash on the I30 is different than the 5th gen. None of the trim pieces would line up anywhere, not to mention the fact that in the Maxima, the OEM navi and radio are one unit, while in the I30, the screen is completely separate from the radio.

...and the list goes on....

What difference does it make, the top part is what were looking at and that hasn't been changed at all, it was just to show the diff between the dash. That was a waste of a post

i think i will go aftermarket, if i had an entire I30 to just gut it might be doable but since i dont, its not worth it. Thanks for all the input guys
