I broke pretty much all the plastic clips that attach these two covers to the bumper.

Anyone use of a good replacement other than OEM? Obvously the cheapies will come loose at speed.

 

OEM is the way to go, but try zip ties for a temporary fix.

 

Any dealer should be able to throw some new ones on.

I had the same problem, so when I hap my lip painted and installed I asked to put new ones in and they did no problem.

Zip ties also work well.

 

My '02 Max doesn't have plastic clips. It has metal screws that attach to spring nuts. They have never come off.

 

The little plastic clips are really cheap even at the dealer - mine just put the two that broke back on for me.

 

I honestly hate those damn things. Scrapped all mine for a 'free' look

 

after i installed the y-pipe on my 00, i used zipties. then i just removed the splash guards all together

OK, went to the dealer. $1 a piece. Guy indicated there is a tool that is used to remove them that is shapped like a "fork" with two ends. Anyone know where to get one? I keep snapping these things with screwdrivers.

 

My car has gone commando as well. I hate the splash guards, provides a nice view of the "transmission"

 

they actually look more like scissors. each end is curved towards the center. i kno they cost around 5 bucks. dunno what its called though.

 

Are they a specialty tool or can I find them at AutoZone (and the like)?

 

They have them in the tool section at any parts store like autozone for around 5 bucks.

 

zipties work but are a pain to cut off and put new ones on anytime you wanna change your fogs or anything

 

how often do you actually do that?
its not like you have to cut them off once a week. and for the record, fogs are easier to do from the top anyway.

 

I find them easier to do from the bottom.

 

have you tried from the top?
from the bottom, you have to lay on your back, remove the splash guard, and fit your hands in there to remove them.
from the top, you just stand there, remove the headlights, and remove it.
ive done it both ways, and the top is easier IMO.

 

Oh yeah, I forgot about removing the headlights. Worried about messing up my DDE wires though.
