hardwire radar detector

ive had a few different detectors over the past few years and recently aquired a passport x50. best detector yet. ive got it hardwired sitting right above my rear view mirror as of now. but i remember a few months back comming across someones cardomain who had hardwired his x50 into the sunglasses holder on the roof console of a 5th gen. does anyone else remember seeing this? or better yet, have a link to it? im also concerned with the sensitivity of the radar now that it is behind the tint on the windshield. i havent noticed anything yet but ive heard rumors that can interfer with the radar

sorry sooner.should be more specific. what i meant to say was not only that it was hardwired into the consoles power, but the detector itself was mounted inside the sunglasses holder. THAT is what im looking to see

yeah when i was looking for a mounting location i was like, "how the hell did this guy do that?" and then i realized, it must have been a 00-01. oha well. im pretty happy with the placement now(above rear view). it cant be seen from outside, when looking in from the drivers side window(cops) or when driving behind me. so itll do. but thanks again

Wow, I really like that idea, sucks that it won't work in the 02. The x50 is definitely my favorite detector too, saved me a few tickets.

I understand now after looking at Jason's pics why you would do this. Good thing I don't travel much through the state of Virginia and DC.

As far as a source for power, I hardwired a Sirius receiver to the switched power on the cig lighter, a lot better than fuse taps IMO. Once you remove the console and get to the back of the lighter you will notice that there is just enough exposed post to solder a lead.

i live in VA and i mounted mine like that because i live here. if you get pulled over, you close the sunglass holder and switch it off. cop cant see it.
unless he gets you with VG-2 and your detector doesnt have protection for that.
