i wonder the same, i see the blackout halo lights on ebay, but only one listing told the fact that they are not for hid systems. they say 02/03 but they dont tell you , that they will only directly replace 00/01 oem applications. Sucks dont it. they would look sweet on 02/03 super black with 00/01 Se black tails.

No I don't think so. The demand for the 00/01 Maxima alone is not enough for any one company to justify mass producing good quality projectors powered by HIDs, unless if the retrofit company already sell completed retrofits on their site or ebay. The best you could do is find someone who can retrofit them for you provide what type of projector (e46, TSX) and HIDs (D2 or D4) you want.

that makes sense. but i think if they did do the hid retro, lots more 00/01 owners would buy them just to convert to hids, as well as the 02/03 market.i would like to have the halo/ blackout /hid setup.what do you think about that?

A thread wondering if something will ever happen. How very thoughtful

Nothing will happen until someone takes the initiative and gets the ball rolling. As for me, I wouldn't be interested in projectors for the maxima.

Not to mention, projector HIDs retrofitted are illegal (read: liability for manufacturer). The 00-01 guys get away with HIDs because they are OEM Nissan, in case anyone ever asks. I had a police officer ask me about mine once ("Are those aftermarket HIDs?") and honestly told him, "No, they're OEM."

Im also not interested in the projectors because of the legal side of it. I've already been pulled over for enough crap, and dont need another reason for them to yank me. Im just going to get a HID plug and play system for the factory headlights.

A while ago there was a projector headlight that was HID and also DOT and SAE approved. It was based on the H3 projectors (same body) but the bulb type printed on the lense was D2R. It also costed $1100. They don't sell them on ebay anymore though.

if you are goin to put HIDs in teh stock 00-01 lights MAKE SURE you purchase bulbs with a VERY high grade glare sheild or you will regret the purchase like i have. you get the nastiest hotspots and the lights dont do a thing, they just look cool from far away but to be practical they honestly suck. if you get hids buy the 02 OEM system.

Clarification: they "claimed" to be DOT and SAE approved, but really were not - since NO aftermarket HIDs are DOT approved. The only DOT-approved HIDs are the ones that come on cars from the factory.

As for SAE (the society of automotive engineers), it is nothing more than an industry group, consisting of automotive companies and parts suppliers, engineers, etc. It has no actual lawmaking power and is only responsible for setting standards for the industry. SAE approval does NOT mean that it is "legal."

ebay sellers telling lies about the legality and quality of their products???

NO WAY!?!?!

It would be nice, but I don't mind taking the time to do a retro. I finally managed to get my headlight open in a gas oven (275 for 10 minutes) and cracked the chrome "shroud" into 2 pieces (maybe even 3).

Since you have an 02, I think you should keep your OEM HIDs. But if you do want projectors, I'd recommend you retrofit the black halo projector headlights and use your existing D2 setup. Because of our H4 setup, 00/01 owners would have to build a custom harness in order to power the the low and high beams so that's extra work for us. You should have no problems replacing the D2R bulbs with D2S. High beam can go either way. Keep your 9005 bulb and modify the reflector bowl to fit it, or rewire to power the H1 bulb. Maybe the later is better because the shape of the reflector is made for the H1. This setup I recommend is what I would do. I don't think any 02/03 owner have done this setup because the fact that 02/03s already have good HIDs. But it's all up to you to decide what you want. Also, check out Dr. Roy's site for modifying the LED Halos. They look so much better. Hope this helps.

BTW- I'm in the middle of rebuilding my custom harness for my retrofit in case you're wondering.

ok, looks like you 00-01's have lights w/ kit.. I wonder if the spitzraft co. sells these headlights alone, and all we have to do is get diff bulbs.. hmm.. But for some reason, i doubt this projector is any different then the ebay ones.. I wish we can get 04-07 projectors in our cars... Those lights are by far the best cut-off and bright lights i've ever seen driven on the road today. My 06 murano comes close, but still, 6th gen maximas win..
